We had the chance to partner with the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts a couple weeks back to capture some content for their annual fundraising gala in June. We were privileged to film interviews on their world famous blue carpet.

Our biggest challenge was being resourceful and using nothing but batteries to power our gear (we were not allowed to plug in any of our equipment due to union rules). But our production community stepped up and helped provide extra batteries for our shoot day.

We are SO excited to share our brand new color reel!

Color grading is one of the many facets of video production that tend to be a little more behind the curtain. Putting work into coloring can go a long way with getting the most out of an image that a crew works hard to capture during a shoot.

When we were in the inception stages of Added Element, one of the convictions/directions we wanted to go was to offer a “colorist’s touch" to the footage we shoot. This is especially true as the budget goes up; coloring can be a lengthy process. It’s not simply adding a filter like Instagram. It’s more like painting an image - the time goes into balancing the image, isolating and enhancing areas, tracking, developing a look, etcetera etcetera.

Since we want budgets to be faithfully funneled towards a better product, we wanted to offer this in house. There are a lot of really talented creators in this niche aspect of production who dedicate their whole career simply towards coloring video. While Corey does not claim to be the best at this art, he has spent almost a decade honing his skills at an expert level.

The purpose of this reel is to show, practically, what the coloring process does to an image after it’s captured and why it may be worth considering color grading as a necessity when figuring out the scope and budget of any project.

One of our favorite deliverables from a project that includes interviews is the 'blooper reel' - this is such a unique way to look back at the production and capture some of the fun that was had over the course of capturing the interviews.

A lot of times interviewees put pressure on themselves to be perfect with their answers, or never stumble (which is not the case, we want those on camera to look and feel natural) - a blooper reel is a great way to take some of that pressure and turn it into a diamond.

ＢＥＦＯＲＥ －－> ＡＦＴＥＲ

Here is a look at an interview setup we did for Simpson Housing Services - we captured a series of interviews to create an anthem video for this wonderful non-profit and then later repurposed the interview content to create more fundraising videos on Minnesota's Give to the Max day last week.

This interview was setup at one of their locations, where we used the depth of the room to create a more dynamic looking interview. But when you have depth in a room, you oftentimes need more lights to bring certain pieces of the frame to life. This setup we used all the lights we had on hand!

Director Matthew Deery and Director of Photography Corey Wipper brought their A game to this production!

Here is a deep dive into a project we were a part of in 2022, collaborating with Airplanes For Breakfast and Maribeth Romslo.

We helped produce social content for Acorns with International Women's Soccer star Carli Lloyd leading as our featured talent.

Even though we planned this for weeks, and setup for several hours, we shot this whole commercial in just over two hours at a Philadelphia soccer field.

It was a project with many hurdles, logistics and creative partners.

Matthew Deery was one of the producers and problem solvers on this project (and donned a throwback David Beckham jersey on set), while Corey Wipper put the cherry on top of this sundae, adding his expertise in color grading to add the final layer of polish.

Here is a look at an interview setup we did for MDI - this interview was captured for their annual fundraiser, The Ability Bash.

This interview was staged in a run-of-the-mill conference room at Minnesota Bank & Trust, sometimes the dreaded backdrop for those of us in video production - white walls, fluorescent lighting, tables and chairs all over the place, it can be difficult to be creative in these very typical office spaces. But our Director Matthew Deery and Director of Photography Corey Wipper made the room look completely different in just two hours. Take a look

Throwback ( ) to one of Matt and Corey’s first big shoots together, back in 2019, working with AnytimeFitness.

We used powerful lights to brighten up the gym space and captured fitness content with both paid and unpaid talent over the course of two days, at two different locations.

We believe that a drone can be a useful storytelling tool to bring a unique visual perspective to any project. And we LOVE using this tool!

Our team is licensed, registered with the state of Minnesota and fully insured to make sure each flight checks all the boxes required for commercial flight.

We are working on a new aerial reel with a whole host of new content, so stay tuned for that!

Happy May the 4th everyone!

Matt spent time with his son Henry last year to create this fun Star Wars video.

It was a good exercise in being creative, scrappy and shooting a video with a cellphone and limited resources. But most importantly Matt got to spend some valuable time with his oldest son - and Henry had more fun than his dad!
