Delighted to share that another website I designed is live! Federal Hill Neighborhood Association (FHNA) came to me with a site with plain text, no images, spam issues, and a lack of resources to share with its community. Through community surveys and a number of meetings, I created the style colors and fonts, structure and design, copy, graphics, and more. I'm so grateful to Zac, Jeanne, Guy, Beth, and Brad for all their support, to the local photographers who sent in amazing photos of our community, and to the neighbors for all the kind words since its launch.

Over the past few months, I have LOVED working with Baltimore Family Alliance! The people I’ve met are so amazing, and a great example of what our life will continue to look like as we raise our daughter in Baltimore City. The events and resources that BFA shares are the best — and this is no exception! Today we launch a summer camp directory, chock full of over 200 camps, including info in their age ranges, dates, location, and more. It’s been so rewarding to prep the email list for this launch (cleaning out bounced contacts, adding contacts who subscribed in various places, etc). With 14 downloads in the first 15 minutes, we’re off to a good start!! 🥳

To check it out, visit https://mailchi.mp/baltimorefamilies/baltimore-summer-camps-2023. So exciting!! ☀️

Had a wonderful morning at Ceremony Coffee Roasters with Nikki McMillan, getting her super organized and her marketing leveled up before the new year. We worked together a bunch in the past few months, and it’s been awesome to learn about all the good she does (and enjoy some great coffee served by wonderful staff in the meantime)! 💖

I've loved sharing about the work of Wolfe Street Center this year - so excited about their recent award! Congrats to the whole team on this well-deserved accomplishment.

Did you know? The Wolfe Street Foundation recently won Recovery Community Organization of the year!

A recovery community organization (RCO) is an independent non-profit organization led and governed by representatives of local communities of recovery. It’s important for the governing body of an RCO to be made up primarily of people in recovery supported by family members and allies so that they are centered on the lived experience and needs of the people they serve. RCOs organize and host a variety of activities, groups, and programs to support recovery.
If you or a loved one is in a crisis caused by addiction or are seeking recovery, please call on the Wolfe Street Foundation to learn what resources are available and how to find help.

Today, I had a really fun call with a new client I’m super excited to work with. We’ve been friends for a long time, but she just started her Etsy business. We went through my audit of her shop, including how to increase her reach and visibility. I made sure to wear a pair of her beautiful sea glass earrings on the zoom.

💛 We talked about little things: especially in this day and age, people will notice earrings on Zoom and strike up a conversation really naturally. I hopped off the call with her and got onto a zoom lunch date with a friend, and kid you not, the first thing my friend said to me was how beautiful my earrings are. It was such a fun moment!

📌 So here’s my reminder: if you have a shop, make sure to wear some of your products as frequently as possible. You never know when they might strike up a great conversation! ✨

Reflecting on this year with such joy.

Starting this business in the fall felt so scary at the time, so vulnerable— but to be met with such excitement, support, connection, and success reminds me how incredible you all are.

THANK YOU for being there for me as Marketing by Beth launched. Websites, blogs, email set-up, family photos, content creation, and more have been such a beautiful creative outlet for me. It is a joy to work with such beautiful people, channeling their passion and awesome businesses into effective marketing. Grateful for all these opportunities, and for what’s to come in 2022!

Since we love to celebrate around here, tell me: what are you celebrating from this year?

I had such a fun time doing this sweet family’s photo shoot yesterday! Growing up, I always loved taking pictures (folks who knew me then, truth?), but I had forgotten how much I loved my camera in the past two years or so. Taking the photos, editing them, even UPLOADING them was so exciting. It was such a blast to see the joy on everyone’s faces, and to add some sparkle to their holidays! ✨

My NUMBER ONE pet peeve in marketing: when a post, email, etc. is missing this. You’ll want to save this post!

You, the marketer, put in so much effort to make the perfect graphic, write a witty caption, design a stunning email, and … crickets. No registrations, downloads, nothing. Now, that silence can happen for a myriad of reasons - but if you aren’t asking your audience to do something specific, how will they know?!

🚨 You need a CALL TO ACTION.

It’s simple: take 30 seconds before posting to ask yourself, “What do I want them to do?” Sure, sometimes the answer might be “to get to know me better” - and that’s good, too. But most of the time, you need to include a call to action in every thing you do.

➡️ Swipe to see some examples of easy calls to action, and save this post to come back to these later!

What’s been your favorite call to action to use? 💡

And here we are: the final day of Analytics Week! To get to this place, you have figured out who your ideal client is, learned a little bit more about where they are and how you are or are not reaching them, and measured the success of your calls to action. At this point, what’s left is to celebrate! The best thing you can do with analytics is to keep going, keep tracking, keep working. It can be hard! But if you start out on day one expecting to hit 10,000 followers in a week, you might be discouraged and lose steam along the way. Instead, I encourage you to build out that spreadsheet with what you want to track: information about your ideal followers and the most pertinent calls to action would be a good place to start. Every week, evaluate how your week went, and pick at least one success to celebrate. You don’t have to treat yourself to a beautiful bouquet of flowers each week, though I do love these from , but I do recommend finding one stat that increased, a task you completed this week on your road to more data-driven marketing, or another victory based on YOUR goals.

So tell me: what are you celebrating this week?

21/10/2021

It’s Day 3 of Analytics Week! Today, we’re focusing on calls to action. You’re probably wondering which of the engagement analytics matter most.

The truth is that some of that depends on what your call to action is. What did you ask your audience to do? Social media sites tend to favor posts that are really engaging, defined by comments and shares and saves in particular. In the post that you’re looking at, if no one commented, did you ask a question to encourage commenting? In your caption, consider asking your audience to share the post to their stories if they find it useful.

I could go on and on about various options for encouraging specific actions, but the biggest thing I want you to focus on is picking your goal, making a relevant call to action, and then checking that in your analytics. Is your goal to sell tickets? If so, checking how many email clicks were on your ticket link matter most. On a website, do you want applications for your school? If so, the most relevant analytics are probably the visits, clicks, and bounce rates on the admissions and tuition pages.

What analytics are you currently most interested in?

Welcome to Analytics Week! So it’s not Cake Week, or Biscuit Week, or even Bread Week… but here at Marketing by Beth, it’s Analytics Week!

Many of you shared how you really wanted to learn more about analytics, so we’re spending this week going through some tips and tricks on how to get started and what’s really key. Before understanding what data truly matters, it’s crucial to determine who is your ideal customer, donor, or client. It might feel intimidating to try and create a list of a whole bunch of characteristics, so instead, I recommend just taking a few minutes with a timer set on your phone. Start by thinking of a friend or relative, who you *know* will love what you do — or maybe already does. Put yourself in their shoes — what is their day like? What are their regular challenges? I put some more sample questions in the post. What questions did you think of, when determining your ideal client or customer or donor?

Sneak peek from a really fun photo shoot I did recently with Bernadette of An Endless Pursuit Photo & Video! True confession: I was totally nervous before this. I love photos, but this was actually even before I had publicly launched my business, and it felt like such a big step. Bernadette and her husband, Steve, have been our family photographers for years, and as always, Bernadette made me feel super comfortable and joyful. It was actually the energy I got from this branding shoot that propelled me to launch my business that very evening! Since then, I have been blown away with so much great support and so many referrals. Thank you!!

Next week, stay tuned for something really exciting starting on Monday. If you like The Great British Bake Off (like me!), this will have a fun feel to it. Get excited!!
