Back in my old stomping grounds of NE Ohio, I'm excited to be working with Peg's Foundation. An innovative and pivotal event, "Pathways to Progress: Enhancing Mental Health Support in Akron," was organized with the purpose of exploring and enhancing mental health support for underserved youth populations, especially within communities of color.

Discussions centered on the real challenges and opportunities in addressing youth mental health in the community, policy implications, and the importance of tailored mental health services for youth and families. Among those in attendance and speaking to the group included:

We just got the news that Mel Levet passed away on Tuesday. Mel was interviewed recently by Jason Vondersmith of the Portland Tribune for a Salute to Veterans profile. Mel, who was 106 and served in WWII, dressed in his full uniform for the interview and was so proud to be featured.

Cheers to all of the veterans, and especially Mel- we hope he's enjoying “A thimble of vodka on ice" in heaven (his go-to evening drink). And thank you to Jason for the wonderful profile on a great man.

Each day, 106-year-old Mel Levet sits down and does what the doctor ordered.

In addition to attempting to set a world record, Paddy’s will host its traditional festival, which includes a raffle with a trip to Ireland and tour of the Guinness brewery as the grand prize. The sweepstakes will benefit the event’s official charity partner, the Children’s Cancer Association.

“The whole purpose of Paddy’s is to connect people,” bar co-owner Josh Johnston stated in a press release. “St. Patrick’s Day is one way we celebrate this commitment. We get to thank our community, raise money for a worthy cause, and have way too much fun in the process.”

Incredibly honored to be working on a project about a young woman who died before her time. Mallory Smith was just 25 when she passed away from an infection related to cystic fibrosis. However, the “hail mary” treatment she received in the last days of her life was starting to work, offering hope not only for cystic fibrosis patients but for the millions who may be at risk when antibiotics stop working for their chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

Now, a new documentary based on Mallory’s life, “Salt in My Soul,” opening theatrically January 21 (today!), and a $5 million award for research into this therapy from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, are bringing national attention to this new solution for antibiotic resistance: bacteriophage (phage therapy).

The new film is earning rave reviews, including this one from NY Times:
