Severe storms cancel Saturday firework events in Berkeley and Jefferson counties

Independence Day celebrations at the Martinsburg Airport and at Sam Michael's Park in Jefferson County were canceled Saturday evening as a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area.

Jefferson County's fireworks will be rescheduled for Sunday, June 30 with gates opening at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks to begin at approximately 9:15. There will be no entertainment featured as of the close of the Kelly Bell Band's show due to the storm Saturday. Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Myers shared that the park was cleared without incident Saturday and encourages everyone to come back Sunday to enjoy the fireworks.

There were no known incidents in Martinsburg as attendees cleared the airport event venue. Although the website for the airport's event indicates the rain date is July 6, a Facebook post has shown that the event will be rescheduled Sunday evening, June 30, at 9:30 p.m.
More information on both shows will be made available should any changes be made.
