2022 has been nothing short of an eye-opening, gut-punch for me. For all it’s rough edges, I certainly feel I’ve learned a lot and found more clarity and focus for what I want.

In a book I’m reading, I came across the phrase, “multum in parvo” and it’s stuck with me, just sitting there. Occasionally, I pick it up and look it over, mull about with it, wonder at how the phrase, so small itself, contains so much meaning. It’s something I want to carry into 2023 with me, something that seems very important to remember.

I go into the new year knowing myself even better. Knowing what I want and what I won’t accept and working on making those boundaries clear. I go into it knowing what my goals are for my family. I go into it knowing that it won’t always be easy. I go into it knowing we’ll face something that makes us angry, frustrated, scared, worried, what-have-you. I go into it knowing that no matter what comes up, I’m surrounded by people that love me and that I love and I’ll always find a reason to laugh. I go into it knowing I’ll make more mistakes but that each mistake will provide more knowledge for me to grow. At this point in my life, the years seem to be flying by, but I know that even though a year is short, a great deal can happen in a small space, and I look forward to it.

Tradition of the Poppy:
Poppies would grow everywhere on bloodstained battlefields. In 1915, John McCrea wrote his famous poem, “In Flander’s Field” commemorating this phenomenon. I’m response, Moina Michael wrote her own poem above and began wearing a red Poppy on Memorial Day.
