A FedEx truck driver who veered off the road while trying to negotiate a turn on Route 145 in North Whitehall Township Sunday afternoon swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle, killing a man and woman from Allentown, state police at Bethlehem said.

Robert O’Rourke, 55, and Mary O’Rourke, 54, died at the scene of the accident, which happened just after 3 p.m., police said.

According to police:
Devon Lindeman, 22, of Freemansburg, was traveling south on Route 145, about a third of a mile north of Clearview Road, and the O’Rourkes were traveling north on the motorcycle.

Lindeman, while negotiating a left-hand curve, veered onto the west side shoulder. Lindeman continued traveling on the west side shoulder for more than 30 feet before going back into the southbound lane. Lindeman attempted to regain control of his vehicle but over-compensated and veered into the northbound lane, striking the O’Rourkes head-on.

Police said the O’Rourkes were both thrown from their motorcycle into an embankment as their motorcycle slid nearly 20 feet. Lindeman’s truck struck a metal guardrail and crashed into an embankment facing south, landing on top of the motorcycle.

Lindeman was identified by police as the driver of a “freightliner,” though photos from the scene show a FedEx truck off the road and down the embankment.

“First and foremost we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends who are mourning loved ones lost in this accident,” a FedEx spokeswoman said Sunday night. “Safety is our highest priority and we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time.”

Lindeman was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic. He was taken to Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest for possible injuries, police said.

In addition to state police at Bethlehem, the Lehigh County district attorney’s office and coroner’s office are also investigating the crash.

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WILX) -- Three people have been taken to the hospital following an accident involving a semi-truck.

The Calhoun County Office of the Sheriff said deputies responded to the accident, at the intersection of 11 Mile Road and B Drive South in Newtown Township, around 10:21 Monday morning.

Deputies said it appears a passenger car was traveling south on 11 Mile Road, stopped at the stop sign, then continued south into the path of a westbound semi-truck loaded with milk.

Deputies said the semi-truck attempted to break, but collided with the passenger vehicle, which caused the semi to roll over.

Deputies said two people were in the passenger car, both from Kalamazoo.

One passenger, a 45-year-old man, was airlifted to Bronson Kalamazoo with critical injures and the driver, a 50-year-old woman, was taken to the same hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the semi, from Calhoun County, was also airlifted to Bronson Kalamazoo with serious injuries.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team.

YANKTON — A 68-year-old male was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash between Yankton and Tabor.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 10:46 a.m. on Monday, June 15 on South Dakota Highway 50 near the intersection with 433rd Avenue in Yankton County. The site of the crash is about 9 miles east of Tabor and 7 miles west of Yankton.

A 79-year-old man, driving a 2015 Western Star Conventional 4900FA semi truck and trailer hauling gravel, was westbound on Highway 50 near the intersection of 433rd Avenue when the semi collided with a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, driven by the 68-year-old man that was traveling was northbound on 433rd Avenue and failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign.

The 68-year-old man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 79 year-old truck driver sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was transported by ambulance to the Yankton hospital.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WKOW) -- Four people are dead and seven others are hurt after a series of crashes on I/39 northbound Friday morning, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

WSP said the first crash happened at 3:53 a.m. involving two semi trucks at WIS 60 near Lodi.

Later, at 5:11 a.m., another truck slammed into the first crash scene which resulted in a Columbia County Highway worker being seriously injured, and serious but non-life-threatening injuries to two state troopers. All three individuals were transported to UW Hospital.

Then at 6:45 a.m., another crash happened near County K, this one resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.

"A semi-tractor traveling at highway speeds created a chain-reaction crash involving at least seven vehicles - two semi-tractor trailers, a dump truck and four passenger vehicles," said a statement from WSP.

Truck driver Michael Hayes from New Hampshire was traveling behind the group that ended up in the crash and captured it on his dash cam.

"I started hitting the brakes," Hayes tells 27 News. "The truck that was in front of me never touched his brakes. He hit the stopped traffic at 70 miles per hour," Hayes said.

He said he immediately stopped and tried to help, unfortunately, he said there just wasn't anything he could do.

"I don't know what was going through this driver's mind," Hayes says. He says the driver was one of the four fatal victims.

State Patrol officials say five bystanders were able to pull two people out of a wrecked car before it burst into flames.

"We probably would have had more fatalities if it wasn't for the quick actions of those individuals," says State Patrol Captain Jason Zeeh.
Zeeh says after the second crash, electronic highway signs alerted motorists miles from the two northbound accident scenes that crashes had occurred and caution needed to be taken by drivers.

"If people aren't paying attention to their surroundings, if people are exceeding the speed limit, if there's distracted driving these things can still happen," Zeeh says.

Northbound travel on I-90/94 near Lodi Friday was brought to a crawl or stopped for many hours.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A driver was killed and his passenger was seriously injured Friday when the large truck they were in plunged off the H-1 Freeway’s airport viaduct onto the median of Nimitz Highway below.

The crash happened about 2:15 p.m., when the truck was traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway and apparently lost control, flipping over a concrete guard and falling from the viaduct.

The driver was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger, a 24-year-old man, was last listed in serious condition.
Multiple eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway were closed near the Elliott Street intersection, close to the Honolulu International Airport, while authorities investigated the accident.

Several eastbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway’s airport viaduct were also closed in the area near the scene of the accident.

The Medical Examiner has identified the 46-year-old woman killed Friday as Donna Falkenberg.

Police identified the driver as Justin Antwan Jackson, 29, after he was arrested later in the day on Friday.

Jackson said he knew "it was common sense to remain on the scene, but said he was told to lie to the police by his employer." He also said he thought there wasn't anyone in the car when he hit it, until he later saw a news article on his cell phone about it. He then called his wife and his employer, but not 9-1-1.

The crash happened at 6 a.m. along Interstate 10 at Dominion Drive when the driver of an 18-wheeler rear-ended a small Ford Fiesta driven by a 46-year-old woman that was stalled with it's hazard lights flashing.

The woman was killed in the crash, but police say the driver of the 18-wheeler didn't stop and instead, continued driving before abandoning the rig at Bowie and Crockett streets in the downtown area.

"The driver of the truck did not stop at the scene of the accident," Officer Doug Greene with the San Antonio Police Department said. "I would say that this 18 wheeler traveled at least 20 miles or so downtown."

Someone saw the 18-wheeler with extensive front-end damage and called police, who say parts of the victim's car were still visibly stuck underneath it when they arrived.

You can see extensive damage on this 18 wheeler and still pieces of the victim's car caught underneath the rear wheel of the 18 wheeler," Officer Greene said.

A second person in the rig did stay behind and gave information to police about the driver, who was still on the run hours after the crash.

Investigators with the San Antonio Police Department said they were in contact with the driver's employer. When found, the driver faces a felony charge of failure to stop and render aid.

“We don’t know why the driver didn’t stop but this is a crime," Officer Greene said. "When you get into an accident here in the state of Texas you are required to stop and check on the individuals it’s called failure to stop and render aid.”

However, because the crash resulted in the victim dying, Jackson will be facing additional charges.

"This person is now facing a serious charge especially since the victim has passed away in the situation," Officer Greene said.

The identity of the woman killed in the crash has not been released.

The Eastbound lanes of I-10 reopened at about 10 a.m. after being closed for hours.

San Antonio Police are reviewing security camera footage downtown and also have a helicopter looking for him. Additionally, Officer Greene confirmed the company, who owns the truck, is assisting in the investigation.

A man died today in a crash with a semi-truck on Daniel K. Inouye Highway in Hilo, Hawaii island police said.

The man, who was driving a 2007 Honda SUV about 10:15 a.m. today, attempted to make a left turn from the Hilo-bound direction of the highway onto Kaumana Drive when an oncoming 2001 Kenworth semi-truck broadsided the SUV, police said.

Big Island firefighters said the two vehicles ended up 120 yards north of the intersection.

The SUV driver, who has not been identified, died at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 58-year-old Hilo man, was taken to Hilo Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police and firefighters said.

Woman hit by and pinned under FedEx truck in Arnold

A 60-year-old woman was hit by a FedEx truck and then pinned under the vehicle at about 3 p.m. today (June 1) in the 1700 block of Rhythm Lane in Arnold, Rock Community Fire Protection District spokesman Ron Harder said.

He said firefighters were able to get the woman out from under the truck quickly, and she was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

Harder said the woman was listed in serious condition about an hour after the accident.

He said Rock Fire does not know where the woman lives or how the accident happened.

Harder said Arnold Police are investigating the accident.

DETROIT – One man died and another was injured in a Detroit car crash on Saturday morning.

Officials say an unidentified man was traveling west on 7 Mile Road near Gilchrist Street in a 2002 Dodge Caravan when he rear-ended a parked semi-tractor-trailer truck around 4 a.m. The driver was injured and his passenger, a 24-year-old man, was fatally wounded in the crash, officials say.

Both men were transported to the hospital

OHIO, USA — Crews responded to a car vs. semi crash in Lake Township Wednesday evening.

According to authorities, an SUV driven by 42-year-old Shawn Burmeister of Genoa was headed southbound on N. Fostoria while a semi was headed east on SR 579.

Police say Burmeister failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the path of the semi driven by 60-year-old Eric Hunter of Monroe, MI.
Burmeister was taken by air ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries, while Hunter was taken by ground ambulance to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say seatbelts were in use by both parties and alcohol is not believed to be factor in the crash.

Sgt. Matthew Geer with the Bowling Green post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says it's an example of why you should remain vigilant with upcoming summer months.

DIXON, CA, (February 28, 2020) - A head-on crash involving a 40-foot Amazon Prime 18-wheeler has caused several injuries, and a possible fatality. At around 10:30 a.m. Friday, the big-rig truck went through the center divider of Interstate 80 and crossed into the opposite lanes near Pedrick Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. It collided with eight passenger vehicles and another tractor-trailer.

California Highway Patrol crash involving an Amazon Prime semi-truck has caused several injuries, and a possible fatality, when it slammed into eight cars and another truck.

The passenger vehicles included a white Subaru, a black Nissan pickup and a gray Honda, Troopers said. Two of the vehicles were removed in two pieces.

Several unspecified injuries were reported, and people were hospitalized.
A CHP report said there was a potential fatality in the wreck.

WARREN, MN The Minnesota State Patrol and Crookston Fire Department responded to a semi rollover on Highway 75 and Center Street West in Angus Township at 2:11 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.
A 2007 Hummer 3 driven by Alexander Miller, 17 years of age, of Thief River Falls, was traveling eastbound on Center Street and the 2000 Volvo Semi, driven by Cody Paulson, 30 years of age, of Grafton, North Dakota, was traveling northbound on Highway 75.

The Hummer pulled out on the highway, and the semi swerved to avoid the vehicle, turning the trailer over into the eastbound ditch. Paulson had to be extricated by the Crookston Firefighters and was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The semi was hauling sunflowers and the Crookston Fire Department cleaned up the scene.
