Just a friendly reminder as the summer temps go up. The hot summer weather makes me think of a number of prospects over the years who told me that their personal media was stored in a garage, an attic, or a storage unit across town. I would just cringe at the thought of what the extreme heat was doing to those videos and photos. These prospects didn't realize that their media could not be replaced or transferred once it was ruined by heat. As your archive advocate, I encourage you to take a moment to mentally locate where your personal media may be stored. A good rule of thumb is to store it inside a climate controlled environment. If it's uncomfortable for you, it's not good for your media.

If you have media that is in an uninsulated room, such as a garage, an attic, or a storage unit that is not climate controlled, I would likewise encourage you to make it a priority to move your media to a safer environment. You owe it to yourself and your future generations to protect the memories captured on your films, videos, and photos.

P.S. This is what extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, plus humidity can do to your home movies.
