When I first began writing for The Denver Post, The Fray was the biggest story in Colorado music, with a platinum album, global touring, and crossover sound that landed them on "Grey's Anatomy" and a ton of other places. When Isaac Slade showed up at one year, he was mobbed by fans after a surprise acoustic performance (remember that Patrick Meese, Ricardo Baca and John Moore?)
But Slade's no longer with the band, as of 2022. So why did he leave, and what's Fray 2.0 like? I talked to Joe King, Dave Welsh and Ben Wysocki about their new lead singer, new EP and more, in advance of their concert at Boulder's Fox Theatre on Friday (and tour that returns them to Mission Ballroom on Oct. 17).
