In the November 4th episode of *Boomer Banter*, we are welcoming the inspiring author of *Aging Sideways*, a book that dares us to rethink everything we believe about aging. More than a collection of tips or guidance on midlife challenges, Jeanette Leardi reframes aging as a matter of perception and direction, challenging the limiting cultural beliefs that lead us to fear, deny, or even ridicule the aging process.

Together, we will explore why many of us avoid facing aging head-on, responding only to the occasional wrinkle, a strand of gray hair, or societal reminders that seem more like accusations. Through her lens as both a gerontologist and a passionate advocate for older adults, Jeanette Leardi illuminates how these societal messages often manifest as ageism.

Her insights remind us that as we enter a world of unprecedented longevity, our voices, choices, and perceptions can add to a powerful chorus reshaping the way society embraces later life.

Join us November 4th, as we unpack the courage and freedom that come with aging authentically, boldly, and without fear.

Next week on Boomer Banter, we’re diving into the extraordinary connection between people and their dogs with Stacey Colino, health and science writer and coauthor of “The Purest Bond”. If you’ve ever experienced the unconditional love of a dog, or been curious about the science behind that relationship, this episode is for you.

Stacey will share compelling stories about how dogs detect health issues, often before their humans know something’s wrong. She will reveal the biology of the bond, explaining how the simple act of petting a dog releases oxytocin—often called the “love hormone”—in both people and their pets. It’s a connection that’s as biological as it is emotional.

But what about older adults? You might wonder if adopting a dog is a good idea as we age. Stacey will cover the benefits of having a dog for older adults, from bringing joy and purpose to adding structure to daily life. We will discuss common concerns, like the challenges of dog care and how to choose the right dog for your energy level and lifestyle.

Whether you’re a lifelong dog lover, thinking about adopting, or just want to understand more about the power of the human-animal bond, tune in for an insightful conversation that may just inspire you to embrace the purest bond in your own life. Don’t miss it!
