I want to explain TWO POINTS. ⁣

A friend of mine who works for a major news network told me yesterday that his network, and all of the major news networks, and major newspapers, got much of what they knew about Ralph Yarl from me. He said he literally saw them studying my Instagram. And copying content.⁣
⁣
But they refused to credit me.⁣
Or interview me.⁣
Or quote me. ⁣
Or even mention me. ⁣
⁣
As far as they are concerned it was as if NOTHING we all just did together ever even happened. ⁣
⁣
Even though I openly said I was working directly for/with the family. ⁣
⁣
From my page alone hundreds of thousands of you sent emails, made phone calls, and made donations. I see the raw data on the backend. ⁣
⁣
You all know this is true.⁣
I know this is true.⁣
Ralph’s family knows this is true. ⁣
⁣
But you’ll NEVER read it in a paper.⁣
Or see me on ANY news interview. ⁣
On ANY network.⁣
⁣
I’ve been blacklisted. ⁣
⁣
And what this means is that these outlets don’t report the facts as they are. They report the facts AS THEY WANT THEM TO BE SEEN. ⁣

That’s the first point I need you to understand. The “news” is who and what they want you to see and who and what they don’t want you to see. ⁣

When I let the pain of this reality I’m facing go, where I’m literally written out of their version of history, when I let the sting of that go, IT WAS THEN THAT I BECAME TRULY FREE. ⁣

When you don’t fight to be on camera…⁣

When you don’t jockey to get the interview…⁣
⁣
When you literally cease fighting to get the credit THAT THEY GIVE…⁣

And only concern yourself with what:⁣

1. Your family thinks⁣
2. The families you are helping think⁣
3. Your supporters think⁣
4. God thinks⁣
⁣
Then you can be so nimble. ⁣
So bold.⁣
So free. ⁣

I am free. And as a leader, it’s that freedom that makes me effective. ⁣

And at this point, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. ⁣

Of all the work I’ve done for the past 3 years, which might be the 3 most impactful of my whole life, not a single reporter reached out to me for a question. ⁣

❤️❤️🎉🎉🙏🙏 Let me share a lot of GOOD NEWS about Ralph Yarl and his condition. And then speak on what’s ahead for him. That’s Ralph getting some sun with his attorney, my dear friend and brother .⁣

He’s home and looks great. Ralph is a WALKING MIRACLE with a head of steel 😂. ⁣
⁣
Ralph suffered a traumatic brain injury that he is still recovering from. Had the bullet hit his head a fraction of an inch in any other direction he would probably be dead right now. He is expected to make a FULL recovery, but it will take time. And we ask that you pray for Ralph and his family daily. ⁣
⁣
➡️ President Joe Biden called Ralph and spoke to him for nearly an hour. It was actually a beautiful, thoughtful, meaningful, compassionate conversation. President Biden, which I have always said was his greatest gift, offered such warm encouragement to Ralph. He asked Ralph great questions about his musical background and shared stories about his own family playing similar instruments. He asked Ralph about his mother and family and shared heartwarming stories about his own mother and family. They talked about academics, the world, and much more. ⁣
⁣
The family expected that call to last for 2-3 minutes but they loved talking to each other so much that it carried on for about an hour. It was a surprising and special moment. Ralph was invited to the White House. ⁣
⁣
Later, Ralph spoke directly with Vice President Kamala Harris who offered her own warm encouragement and prayers for his recovery.⁣
⁣
Ralph has good doctors and has people looking after him non stop. ⁣
⁣
We found a brilliant Black woman who is a trauma informed psychologist and therapist to begin working with Ralph and the family and that has already begun. ⁣

➡️ Here is an update directly from his aunt, Faith:⁣
⁣
Ralph is currently at home with the family. He can ambulate and communicate. A true miracle considering what he survived.⁣
⁣
Each day is different. He has a long road ahead. However, we are very thankful that he is still here with us. I've been taking the time to read the emails and comments to Ralph. It warms our hearts to see him smile at all the kind words.⁣

After years of being told and made to feel like I don’t belong… after TWO former fire chiefs told me I don’t fit the image they are trying to portray to the community… I was mandated to put of a short sleeve Class A shirt for the first time in my entire career for the city yearbook. I arrived in a long sleeved shirt as I had been used to being mandated to over my tattoos. The Fire Chief called me… and told me to not only put on a short sleeved Class A shirt- but to “be myself.” No turtleneck. No tattoo makeup. ⁣
So here I am… holding my head up and my arms are uncovered… in my first official picture as a Captain since being promoted in 2019… being myself. ⁣
A Hoodrat born and raised in Atlanta… was a couple of first Black woman to do this and that in the history of the department… who’s living in her purpose- which is saving lives.⁣
This wouldn’t be a big deal had I not been told that I would be serving life in prison by 18, that I should quit because a breastfeeding mother can’t finish the fire academy and that I was an embarrassment to the fire service because I was a public assistance recipient (being paid so little back then that I qualified for welfare).⁣
Why do I do this work in a hostile work climate. Ion care about them folks. I care about my city… and representation matters. The essential workers of a city should look, walk and talk like the population they serve. Not only is that me- when we get off and my coworkers go to the outskirts home, I bend the corner from my station- and I am home. I live here. I took the abuse and ate s**t pie on the regular so that little Black girls from Atlanta know this job is for them too.⁣
Grateful for the times that I remember that there is no one in the department that can tell me I don’t belong nor does my appearance represent what a firefighter/ EMS worker looks like nor did I not EARN every promotion. Atlanta has been my home since 1978 and my bloodline dates back to the 1900’s on this red clay. And that’s on Will Tom Perrin, my Big Daddy who built our family home on Simpson/ Sunset that was burned down mysteriously after telling gentrifiers that I wouldn’t sell.⁣
