Galatians 5:22-23 KJV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance

In the previous verse Paul talks about the works of the flesh, spelling them out rather blatantly, and then very plainly telling us that those who “do such things” will not inherit the kingdom of God. Simple truth. Clear and concise.

But then we have the fruit of the Spirit that indwells the saved individual. If one has an inkling of self righteousness, it only takes a quick scanning of these to realize that there is always room for spiritual growth. In all of us! And the only way we can grow this fruit is by knowing the giver.

Can you think of an instance this past week where one of these character traits emerged?
Let me ask another question. This one is a little more uncomfortable. Can you think of an instance this past week where maybe one of these fruits DIDN’T emerge?
As Christians, we can never work hard enough on these traits to master them. Our own power is not the key. Resolutions are not the key. The way to master them is to become more like our Master. Love Him, obey Him, and as the old hymn says, “shaping our lives by His blessed example.”
With salvation comes the fruit of the Spirit, but it is our WALK that ensures growth.

Going about our everyday life, we all have frustrations, but daily frustrations in life should never overshadow our purpose for being here.
I will go a step further, if those times come, (and I think if we’re honest, we’ve all had them) as humble, obedient servants of Christ, we should have a well oiled reverse gear that can apologize and try again. I want my experience with the Lord to “work” in the humdrum of everyday life. And it will, as I walk in complete obedience to Him!

There’s an old hymn that says it all. I’ll end with it this week. I encourage everyone,myself included, to make this our heart’s desire!

“More like the Master I would ever be,
More of His meekness, more humility;
More zeal to labor, more courage to be true,
More consecration for work He bids me do.”

Refrain:
Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone;
Take Thou my heart and make it all Thine own;
Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore,
Wash me and keep me Thine forevermore.

2 More like the Master is my daily prayer;
More strength to carry crosses I must bear;
More earnest effort to bring His kingdom in,
More of His Spirit, the wanderer to win.

3 More like the Master I would live and grow;
More of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be.”

"...When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the LORD your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior"
Isaiah 43:2-3a

Happy New Year! Wow. It's hard to even WRITE 2025! And while we're there... where in the world did 2024 go?
I'm glad to see everyone on this side of the holidays. I hope you are all able to spend some time with family and friends and do the things that make the holidays a special time.
Our family hibernated at our cabin up in northern Michigan… we had a TON of snow and we got to snowmobile, which is always fun.

And now here we are facing a brand new year.
Some are excited for new challenges, new beginnings. (I'm going to be grandma again this year!)
Others are reeling with the cares and stresses of life. Sometimes the uncertainty and the "what ifs" can cause unrest and anxiety.

I remember as a little girl going to "watch night" services that would last until midnight… and the congregation would ring the new year in on their knees praying.
I remember the secure feeling that gave me, even as a little girl.

As we face another year, I could not think of a better scripture than Isaiah 43.
Verse one starts out telling us not to fear… and then continuing on, we are reminded that we serve a God Who cares about every detail of our lives. He's holding 2025 in His very capable hands and He has every intention of seeing us through no matter what we may face.

My goal this year is not to just survive, but to thrive. To press forward, to pray more, to be closer to Jesus than ever before.

I hope to encourage you to walk with me this year. Let's face 2025 together, with the Holy One of Israel, OUR Savior, walking with us, lighting our paths and showing us HIS way!
