WARNING: This is NOT one of those uplifting, positive, rah-rah posts.

I am APPALLED that this is still going on. I spoke with Susan Ash yesterday and plan to edit part of a Spotlight Rescue Series documentary film released in 2018 detailing the abuse that SAVE Havasupai Horses brought to our attention seven years ago. While small strides have been made in the animal cruelty federal legislation since I interviewed Susan in Flagstaff in 2018, NOTHING has impacted the plight of these pack animals. Tribal law.

Her organization is not asking for money. They are asking for our help to spread the word. All they want is for the general public to STOP using the pack service and let our friends know to do the same. If you visit this LOVELY area of the Grand Canyon to see the Havasu Falls, please pack your own gear or hire the helicopter service. DO NOT USE THE PACK ANIMALS!
PLEASE share the information with your friends and family. The only way to have an impact is to cut off the revenue stream that the animals bring in through tourism. This is ongoing and systemic abuse, documented for more than 40 YEARS (this is NOT related to the park service Pack Mules, but the area on the other end of the canyon.)

A hiker who was there May 23-26 saw several “ emaciated” horses tied to poles in a corral off the main trail.
“ I saw at least two and one was dark brown and one was light brown but they had a lot of horses tied to poles. I saw two for sure that were literally starving to death. “
It is is **CRITICAL** that as many of you as possible send an email to animal control and insist that they help these horses! Please be firm but civil.

One year later, I’m visiting the Mustangs available for adoption at the Congaree Arena. It’s been a year since we picked up our own little Congaree here at the BLM adoption event and my how the time has flown! It’s still great to see how many people are battling it out to pick the one they’d like to take home!

Big changes this week during the Yearling Clinic series! All of the babies now have tags off, halters on and various levels of handling... as Bruce says, things are "coming to come."

Highlight of the week for me was our Baby Unicorn moment with Favor...I just love that he was able to chill while Bruce got him all "set" and it really was no big deal.

A lot of hard work and loving care going into these babies... someone is going to get some incredible horses down the road!

The Marley Project joins the Seen Through Horses Campaign in May 2024!!!!

Join The Marley Project, Inc. in spreading awareness of the power of horses in mental health and personal growth during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Camden, SC– Horses have been incorporated into various human health and wellness services for many years, however involving horses within the context of mental health is relatively new. Horses can make a big difference for the mental health challenges so many people face and help them transform in a safe and powerful way. Mental health does not discriminate. It touches every person alive either personally or through a loved one. One in five people in the U.S. will be affected by mental illness in their life. Every 40 seconds, someone dies by su***de and depression is the number one cause of disability worldwide. Two-thirds of people with a mental illness never seek help, and of those who do, only about 50% find traditional talk therapy successful (NAMI, 2020).

The good news is, we can begin to change these statistics. One solution that is making a profound difference is Equine Assisted Learning and we believe that services using horses should be available to everyone to make a much-needed difference for the mental health challenges so many in our world face. The Marley Project, Inc. is among 75 nonprofit organizations convening as benefactors in the Seen Through Horse Campaign, a peer-to-peer campaign launching May 1-31, 2024. Seen Through Horses is composed of individuals, nonprofits, mental health professionals, influencers, and businesses to increase awareness, public engagement, and raise funds to improve access to programs incorporating horses for mental health and personal growth.

“We have always looked for innovative ways of providing services with horses for our community,” explained Julianne Neal, Marley Project Executive Director. “Our core values include service to others, collaborations between horses and humans and empathy for others as our participants are self-empowered to serve as the authors of their own stories.
