It's a double whammy! Suicide Prevention month is past but the challenges and angst continue. Today we're sharing our two most recent episodes side-by-side:
We start with a conversation between the two of us (Episode 5) In the dark corners of our lives, where our secrets and fears lurk, we find suicide, a topic that is often shrouded in mystery, taboo, and silence. In our latest episode, we pull back the veil and bravely face this topic, not from the fringes of society, but from the core of our daily lives, our families. From Janice's personal experience with her older sister's suicide attempt to taking a closer look at the alarming statistics - almost 50,000 people lost to suicide each year, we begin an important conversation on this heavy subject, aiming to shed light and hope.
We delve deeper by sharing intimate stories from our pasts, reminding us all of the profound ripples such incidents create within our community. We discuss how a single, seemingly insignificant conversation might be the lifeline someone desperately needs. The episode explores the pivotal role of teens in suicide prevention, how they can support their peers, navigate difficult discussions, and cope when they are caught in strained relationships with adults.
Next up we take a deep dive into how Suicide touches the lives of the LGBTQIA community and are joined by THE TransJedi (of TikTok) in our most recent Fireside Chat:
Join us as we delve into a series of deeply impactful conversations with Chris, better known as Trans Jedi on TikTok. With his insights illuminated by his experiences as a historian, atheist, and most importantly, as a staunch advocate for trans rights, we traverse the landscape of the LGBTQIA community. We also explore Chris's personal life, revealing his first meeting with Janice, and giving you a unique peek into his world beyond advocacy.
In the face of sobering statistics and heart-wrenching realities, we tackle the urgent issue of high suicide rates among LGBTQIA y
I know you’re thinking - if only it were that simple. Actually, it is. Often times when we are feeling stuck, or overwhelmed, or powerless, the simple act of changing our view can have a HUGE impact on our brain. No, that doesn’t mean hop on an airplane, though the view is great from up here…it can be as simple as go to another room in your home, take a walk outside, go for a drive. But changing the stimulus sources for your brain can help you think differently about the problem at hand.PS - yeah, you can also go deeper and CHANGE your VIEW….meaning, consider taking in new information that will actually make you consider the dilemma from another perspective. Often the wisest among us are those trying to prove themselves wrong.There. I said it.Drop a ❤️ if you’re changing your view today.
Can we just stop…stop believing the myths put forth by the world around us? Stop caring what others think? Release ourselves from the negative?
The answer is yes…yes we can.

I may or may not be a little prone to running myself ragged in the name of getting “it all” done. And yes, that means not always taking the time for me.
Actually, I’ve gotten much better in recent years as I’ve adopted a whole health approach to my own wellness.
Some of my new habits include:
📖settling into bed a half hour earlier to make time for reading- I love to read for pleasure and yet that often gets pushed to the side when I’m really busy. I read a lot this week and was reminded of how much joy it brings me
🧘♀️using my app to track my water
💪🏻getting 20-30 minutes of movement in daily
Seems simple, right?? That’s intentional. I know when I build new habits slowly, I’m more likely to adopt them long term. These are doable now and I’ll revisit them in two months (yep- I have a calendar reminder for that as well).
Would love to hear your ideas for taking care of you and slowing the heck down!
Drop a ❤️ if this is helpful and FOLLOW for more!
Had this thought as we shared time with family and friends over the holidays. We make so much effort during the holiday season to be with the ones we love. And yet, in all of the days in between, our relationships often take a back seat to the day-to-day pressures of life.
Work takes precedence.
Shuffling the kids to and from takes precedence.
Binging Netflix takes precedence (you know who you are:).
Day-to day we get overwhelmed by all there is to do and often see our relationships as one more thing. But what if we didn’t?
What if we prioritized our special relationships all year long?
Consider this…having that network of folks you love and who bring you joy close by all year just might be the best antidote possible for exhaustion, loneliness, that feeling that you’re “in this” all alone. Consider that by keeping them close, you might actually have a greater sense of support that will make even the biggest of challenges seem doable.
There. We said it.
Be sure to SHARE with someone you want to keep close!
