Remember back in the day? We Were Young is a new podcast connecting with the earliest and most formative years of our lives, from birth through the teenage years and into early adulthood. It’s a long-form conversation that delves deep into the past of the guests and hosts about where they’ve been and how it made them who they are today.
Creator Rob Gray thought of the concept after sharing his many wild childhood stories with new friends and strangers. The reactions got him thinking about how talking about our childhood and early years are entertaining, engaging, and relatable. He is a musician and performer who is one half of AVL-based electronic music duo BomBassic, and the solo producer Cpt. Hyperdrive. Along with co-host Ali McGhee, Editor of AVLtoday, creative writer and DJ on Asheville FM, Rob sits down to talk up close and personal with guests including: Chef Katie Button, founder of world-renowned restaurant Cúrate; Leah Wong Ashburn, President and CEO of Highland Brewing Company; Michelle Moog Koussa, daughter of legendary synth maker Bob Moog and founder of the Moogseum; electronic music producer/vocalist/turntablist Marley Carroll, and many more!
Topics range from earliest memories in diapers to cringe-worthy fashion choices in junior high, disastrous prom dates, celebrating the holidays with family, run-ins with cops, first-time getting drunk/stoned, cherished moments with a teenage crush, unforgettable laughs with best friends, and everything in between. Whether the conversation turns to topics as serious as the death of a family member or as playful as favorite cereal, listeners will learn something new about the hosts, the guests – and relate through their own experiences.
