Hey Friends, this is a very difficult message to send but it needs to be done.

We are hurting.

I thought we would be able to survive just one more year of construction. I thought we could do it without asking for help. I thought this summer would be a relief from the last 4 years of covid and continued roadwork in Oakwood. But now I’m not so sure.

When the projects on Kalamazoo roadways kept piling up, I figured we would see some kind of change in our sales, but I was not at all prepared for the hard and fast decline we have seen over the last 6 weeks. As a seasonal business, we count on June, July and August being our busiest months of the year. They are what carry us through the cold months, allow us to maintain business hours in the winter and keep all our people employed. Without a strong summer, we simply can’t survive the off season.
June 2024 we were down 20% from last year
July 2024 MTD we are down over 30%. That’s nearly $500 per day we are not seeing this year that we were last year.

I am asking for your help on behalf of our amazing Treat Street team and every business in the plaza, as well as every small, independently owned business in Kalamazoo. PLEASE consider going the inconveniently long detour to stop at your favorite ice cream shop. PLEASE skip the corporate chain and visit a mom and pop. PLEASE share our posts with your friends and families. PLEASE remember that these business are families with bills to pay, plus paychecks to right. Not only are the livelihoods of each business’s owners at risk, but so are the livelihoods of all their employees.

We have seen Kalamazoo come together to support each other in many different ways over the last 4 years since we took over the best ice cream shop in Kalamazoo, I know we can survive this storm with your support. We have 6 weeks until our 4th anniversary as business owners. There is still time to help us through this. Let’s end this season with a bang!
