That pool is not just historic, it is a cherished tradition for many families around the Big Country. Many say it's the best traditional large and deep public pool within a couple hours drive.

We support our beloved State Park, but along with so many Big Country residents are both confused and concerned this morning after hearing this same story for a few years with no progress or plans communicated to the community (outside of a June 2022 post that explained some parts were backordered).

We have been in contact with our news media liason with Texas Parks and Wildlife over the past hour seeking clarification. What is the plan for renovation, if any? Have repairs actually been started? What is the timeline for completion: for next year, a few years, never?

We will share immediately as soon as we have the answers.

Unfortunately, the Abilene State Park pool will not be open for operations this year due to much needed repairs. The safety of our visitors is our highest priority which led us to this difficult decision. We want this to be a place of family fun and memory-making for all, so please bear with us as we work to make the necessary repairs to the pool and enhance your future experiences. We appreciate your patience during this process and invite you to take advantage of all of the other wonderful opportunities Abilene State Park has to offer.

proud: Abilene ISD Cooper High School deaf education teacher Amber Nall (R) lived out two dreams yesterday at Globe Life Field: to be on the field with her favorite Ranger of all time, Nolan Ryan, and to sign the National Anthem for the Texas Rangers in front of 40,000 people. She was invited for the Opening Day role personally by Rangers Executive Vice President for Ballpark Entertainment and Public Address Announcer Chuck Morgan after seeing a viral social media post that began rounds in 2020! She is pictured with fellow Abilenians Staci Tatro, a former colleague of Mrs. Nall’s at Allie Ward Elementary, and Dustin Tatro, organist with the Rangers and staff at The Raider.
