The West Fork, Des Moines River at Estherville is predicted to reach its apex at about 1 a.m. Monday morning. Meanwhile, vehicles are still traveling on the Fourth Street Bridge.
Emergency sandbagging on West 1st St
Please stay clear of Central Ave near the bridge as an emergency sandbagging operation is in progress.Volunteers are needed. The Central Ave. Bridge is closed, and volunteer sandbaggers are needed as the community prepares for the river to crest at an unprecedented 18 feet.
(At 12:02 p.m. Sunday, one public official said over emergency radio, "We have a pretty impressive group here. Volunteers are really stepping up.)
Emmet County Emergency Management is warning those living along the West Fork of the. Des Moines River that they could lose power on Sunday into Monday. The river could go as high as 18 feet, well above historic records.
In addition, more roads in the Estherville area are becoming impacted with the rising flood waters. Residents living in that vicinity should be vigilant and prepared to take the necessary measures.
The Estherville News will have continuing coverage of the Emmet County response to this flood.

Did you know Renegade, the local band founded in 1979, is back together for the first time in 40 years? And they’ll be inducted into the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!! On Sunday. The band invited the Estherville News into a Tuesday night rehearsal. Do you remember these rock-filled kids and the remodeled school bus they drove to gigs before it was cool?
