Measuring under four inches, the critically endangered bog turtle is the smallest turtle in the United States. ARC is taking action to protect this tiny turtle by restoring its habitat in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. With more bogs disappearing every year to development and other environmental changes, it is imperative to provide new or renewed habitat so that bog turtles can reproduce and persist for generations to come. Thanks to conservationists like you, ARC will continue to restore bog turtle habitat and perform surveys in North Carolina in 2022, giving this cherished species the best chance at a bright future!

If there's anything we've come to love to the degree of obsession, it's both kittens (because they're baby cats,) and grumpy faced cats. What on earth could be better than a grumpy-faced kitten? How about five of them. You read that right, five grumpy-faced kittens. Swoon, heartbeat intensifies, wow...

Some consider deer to be a nuisance. Without any natural predators, deer overpopulate in many areas and can wreak havoc in well-tended to gardens. But regardless of how much deer may frustrate the average homeowner, no one can resist their babies. With their sweet faces, awkwardly adorable bodies, a...

Two weeks ago I was in tears, calling every hospital in San Diego and asking if they had a veterinarian on site who felt comfortable placing an IV in a 4 week old kitten with panleukopenia. 5 hospitals said no, and only 1 said yes. One of our local hospitals put someone on the phone with me who literally said that they wouldn’t see her because, and I quote: “a 4 week kitten cannot survive panleukopenia, it is not possible.”

I bit my tongue, but I wanted to say: “sure, not with that attitude.”

Snow Pea is living proof that kittens with panleukopenia absolutely can survive. Yes, even with the best of care, some will pass. But some will live. And for them, we ought to be willing to try.

The little orange kitten on the cover of my book, Tiny But Mighty, is also a panleukopenia survivor. I chose her as my cover cat not just because she is adorable, but also because she is a reminder that when we take a chance on these tiny kittens, we can truly make a mighty difference. Not just for the individual, but for all the future kittens we will save with the knowledge we learn along the way.

This afternoon I am giving a private training for veterinary students from a university, and I put this photo of Snow Pea into the presentation so that her story can hopefully inspire these future veterinarians to be willing to try for kittens like her. No one should be told that a kitten “cannot survive” panleukopenia without even examining the kitten. I am so grateful that, even with all the heartbreak I’ve experienced this month, I have the opportunity to use this as a teaching moment. They are worth it. Snow Pea is worth it.

SUPER-PET SQUARES FOR New Hope Animal Rescue Center

Craig Alexander Creative is excited to announce our first fundraiser for 2021! The big NFL game of the year is 2/7, and we will be doing Super-Pet Squares as part of that to raise money for New Hope Animal Rescue Center. Participants not only will raise money for the newest animal shelter in the Pine Belt, but you have a chance to win $$$ yourself!

How to play: 1- Choose a number 1-100 that is available. Each number is $10. You may choose as many numbers as you would like to pay for.

2- The winner is determined by looking at the last number in each teams' score, and then matching those numbers on the grid and seeing which square intersects those two numbers. Example: If Tampa Bay scores 21 and Kansas City scores 14, you would use the 1 row from TB and match it with the 4 row from KC. Whatever number that matches up where the row and column come together is the winner!

(NOTE- the numbers on each row/column will not be added until numbers are sold. They will not be in order.)

3- The winner at the end of the game will win 50% of the profit with 50% going to New Hope Animal Rescue. If all 100 squares are sold, that means $500!

4- Squares are on a first come/first serve basis. But since we will not place the number rows until after the squares are sold, there are no "better" spots. We must have payment to reserve your square. You may purchase as many squares as you choose.

5- If for some reason the winning square is not chosen, we will put every number in a bowl and randomly draw the winner. (Hopefully it won't come to that!)

6- We will also have door prizes that you have a chance to win just by participating. We will draw those at random.

7- Forms of payment that we can accept........ cash, check, money order, Venmo, Paypal, Cash App.

New Hope Animal Rescue Center is a non-profit organization created to help neglected, abused and unwanted pets in our area. It is located at 279 Sunrise Road in Petal. You can contact them at (601) 596-7610. They are open currently on an as-needed basis with a goal to be completely open and functional this spring. They are always looking for donations and volunteers!

If you would like to purchase a square, please contact us through Facebook messenger at Craig Alexander Creative, email [email protected], or call/text 601-520-6975!

Silly Hobbes.
Hobbes is a lesser kudu who likes to seek out attention from keepers and is always looking for a snack. He likes to have his neck and ears scratched by his care team. Since antelope are prey to so many predators it is more natural for them to be really cautious around people and always aware of their surroundings, but Hobbes has learned he can trust his keepers.
