Thankfully, the enemy didn’t get the last word 😉 And regardless of how this writing submission turns out, I’m glad to be back in the writing world. ♥️

When I agreed with the Lord to start talking about Control, HE already knew something I didn’t: 12 days after I recorded this episode, my dad would have a heart attack and need triple bypass surgery. He KNEW my desire to know the plan, have all the details and be “in control” would be put to the test.

These words hit a little different today, as I sit in ICU with my dad. So if you’re a control freak like me, come on over and sit a spell. You’re in mighty fine company.

4.9.24 - shares the story of grieving the loss of his dad, and how the Lord wove together all parts of that time to bring him to where he is today.

4.23.24 - ’s heart for serving others through his real estate business is incredible, y’all. So getting to sit with Cole and talk about how faith and work intersects was amazing.

What’s so Good about Friday?
​
Reading the account of Jesus’s death is hard. Between Judas selling him out, Peter denying he knew him, Pilate washing his hands of him and the crowd begging for a murderer to be released instead of Jesus, it’s all just a little too much to take in.
​
They killed an innocent man, y’all. Beat him, spit on him, tortured his bloody body, and nailed him to a cross. He died the most excruciating death.
​
Again I asked the Lord - What’s so Good about Friday?
​
I woke up this morning, one sentence tapping on my heart, beating inside me as soon as I opened my eyes:
​
​Sometimes the hardest things are also the holiest.
​
Those who witnessed his death saw the destruction of his human body. They saw an innocent man’s life taken from him.
​
They could not fathom what was coming.
​
They didn’t know that the hardest thing Jesus endured would also be the holiest moment in history. He gave his life for us. Traded his flesh for mine. Overcame death.
​
Maybe it is true then, that the hardest things are the holiest.
​
The momma up three times a night to nurse their baby. Rocking that baby in the dark, giving herself for their tiny, fragile body.
A husband holding his wife as she takes her last breath.
Grown children caring for aging parents whose minds can’t quite remember who they are.
Friends that sit with you in the rubble of your broken dreams.
​
We catch glimpses of God in the darkest night. Glimmers of beauty. The aroma of faith.
Which takes me back to Friday on a hill, where an innocent man hung on a cross.
​
The hardest moment. And yet, the holiest.
​
​

•Does God know your situation - have you talked to him? (Not your bestie or spouse - have you actually gotten to a quiet place and sat with the Lord?)

•Is it too hard for Him to handle? (Nope. Not at all. But we have to LET Him. Invite him. Trust Him.)

•Does he have a good plan for you? (This one is hard sometimes, especially if you’re basing your answer on the outcome. His good for us is so much farther reaching than we can possibly imagine, so trusting Him for our good is bigger than the outcome of one thing.)

Maybe it’s time to step away from rigid judgments to discover a praying lifestyle that syncs with your God-given personality. This week’s conversation continues with Janet McHenry about finding your natural prayer style.

Janet McHenry is the author of a book coming out in January called Praying Personalities: Finding Your Natural Prayer Style. We discuss how finding your natural prayer style is much like exploring questions on personality assessments. We also cover points about redefining what prayer looks like, examining examples of biblical praying styles, and finding ways to blend prayer into our modern lifestyles.

You’ll Learn:
[04:13] Janet started being more mindful about deeper prayer after praying with a young father.
[07:27] Janet recalls an experience of injustice against her husband and their ranch. In the end, this experience became the testimonial of a previous prayer.
[14:38] The Bible gives examples of around four different categories of prayer styles.
[18:59] We discuss how finding your natural prayer style is much like exploring questions on personality assessments.
[21:20] Janet shares which prayer style she gravitates towards. Then, she talks about what helps if what she’s saying resonates with you.

As a believer, you may have found ourselves at odds with the way your party has evolved over the years. And maybe you don’t feel like either of them fit you any more. We talk about Political Homelessness (credit Michael Weir) this week and I loved this quote from Kaitlyn. Her take on having a “political life” that involves more than just A VOTE was empowering, and what so many of us needed to hear. It’s more than just casting a vote. It’s plugging into other areas where that vote might not make a difference.

This week’s episode might be different than usual. That’s ok. The Lord pressed me to offer this week (and next week too) as a way for us as believers to start taking - and thinking. Email/DM me if you want to talk.
