A bill has just passed both the houses of the New York State Legislature that would allow hunters to go afield anywhere in New York State without being required to wear a backtag. If signed into law by Governor Hochul, the requirement to display your DEC-issued hunting license backtag on your outer most garment in the middle of your back while hunting is permanently repealed wherever you hunt in the state.

Larry DiDonato explains in the latest Outdoors at https://porcupinesoup.com/outdoors-backtags-no-longer-required-for-hunters-in-new-york

Wreckage, sirens, hysterical parents, bloodied teens, and body bags were part of the scene Wednesday night for Cairo-Durham’s annual Prom Promise event. Staged at the high school, the mock accident is something Saturday’s prom-going students and their parents were required to attend.

But organizer Gerry Buckley, a Cairo firefighter and Greene County coroner, said he fears a change in state policy could put an end to live crash scenarios.
