Something about winter weddings that make me feel warm & fuzzy inside 🤍

I LOVE winter weddings. Offer cozy cocktails or blankets for your guests to snuggle up. Have a fire going to roast s’mores. Barns, ranches, lodges. Twinkle lights & a bajillion candles. Lush greenery. First look in the snowfall. A pretty, fur cape or velvet shoes. Deep, moody colors. K geeking out because it can be so dreamy & whimsical to have your wedding in the winter ❄️

Wedding Tip Wednesday - TOASTS 🥂

1. It’s a toast, not a monologue. No more than 5 minutes - the shorter, the better.
2. It’s not a free for all (you get a mic, you get a mic, everyone gets a mic) 🙅🏻‍♀️ Limit toasts to no more than 4 speeches. If there are more, ensure that they are brief.
3. Stay somewhat sober until after your speech & thank me later. Nothing worse than foot-in-mouth from a little liquid courage.
4. If you tell a story, choose one about the couple now, not when you were college frat buddies.
5. This isn’t a time for the bride or groom to be “roasted”. Yes - be witty, funny & lighthearted but let’s not embarrass them for the sake of your amateur comedy hour. It may be a funny moment between the two of you, but know your audience.
Send this to anyone who is toasting at your wedding! Toast, don’t roast 😉

It’s Wedding Tip Wednesday! Recently I went to look at wedding dresses so I thought I’d share some tips:

✨I had to shop the floor selection since our wedding is 3 months away. Usually dresses take about 6-9 months to make so the floor was my only option. Even if you’re further out, I suggest looking at the floor selection as well - you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what they have & they’re usually discounted.
✨Keep your budget in mind - your dress & attire (including the groom) should account for around 8% of your total budget (according to Wedding Wire). So for a budget of $20k, all attire should be no more than $1600.
✨Get ready before you go! I went like I just rolled out of bed & although I found my dress, I feel like you get a better effect all around if your hair & makeup are done.
✨Try on all types of dresses - you may have a vision in mind & that’s great, but you’ll be surprised at what you may like that doesn’t align with what you thought you wanted. I thought I wanted something off the shoulder & flowy in which I ended up going with something totally different! Had I kept my options limited, I probably wouldn’t have found my dream dress 😍
✨Make sure you have your venue selected before looking for dresses (Ex: if your venue is more modern looking with geometric lines & a sleek look, you probably shouldn’t choose a boho-looking dress with lace).
✨Most brides are “sweating for the wedding” - love it. I’m right there with you. Buy something that you look good in NOW & when you shed those extra pounds, it will be that much better! Don’t have the mindset “maybe this will look better when I lose 10lbs”.

Hope this helps! Also, none of these are/or even close to what I chose. I can’t wait to show you in just over 3 months!! 🤗

Meet Jermaine, owner of ✨ I worked with him this past weekend at the Wilde Wedding. If you’re looking for a DJ, this is your guy - I received so many compliments from guests about him & his work. Always a pleasure, Jermaine - hope to see you again soon! You kept the dance floor packed & the party going 💃🏻

I just had a final meeting with some clients for their wedding in May. The final meeting is a crucial part of being able to do my job effectively & efficiently on wedding day. I get allllll the tea - vendor info, decor info & procession info. I take a ton of notes, like I’m in 8th grade history class. This is typically when I meet the bride & groom for the first time too - talk about twist to the typical blind date. Before this, it’s emails/texts back & forth because I’m the person who jumps in towards the end of your planning & ties it altogether for you. Anyway, this final meeting had me hyped because it’s the first wedding of the season for me & this couple is serving pizza for dinner so I am one excited, pregnant day-of coordinator 🎉🍕

It’s my best friend, Richard’s birthday today. Richard passed away May 9th, 2019. What does that have to do with anything? Well, he is extremely significant, not only because he was one of my greatest friends, but he is also the reason my fiancé & I are together. He introduced Zach to me & we became the three best friends that anyone could have 👦🏻👩🏻👦🏼

Richard was supposed to officiate our wedding. Now that he isn’t here physically, I’ve been trying to find a way to honor him at our wedding. Richard passed away in Hawaii and in Hawaii, releasing a lei into the ocean is a way to honor & remember the loss of a loved one. Although we are getting married in Mexico & not Hawaii, we will be on the beach, so I was thinking of doing this for him.

If you’ve lost someone special who was supposed to be at your wedding, there are many ways to incorporate them. Here are a few ideas that I like:

-reserve a seat for them at the ceremony with something special: photos, flowers or like this military jacket above
-add an heirloom to your bouquet, dress or suit
-have a moment of reflection or share a favorite memory during the ceremony
-release balloons or lanterns
-light a candle
-play a special song
-deliver a toast
-create a memory table
-sew a cherished photo of them on the inside of your gown or suit
-make a donation to a charity in their honor

Yay! We booked our photographer, so I thought I’d share some insight. If you Google ?s to ask before booking a wedding photog, you’ll find endless info. I’m not here to share ?s - I’m here to share some advice from the other side.
📸Look at their work - do you like their editing style? Never ask a photog to change their style of edit to “be like so & so” - it’s insulting. Your photog is comfortable with their style & took some time to develop it. If you don’t like it; move along 🚶🏻‍♀️
📸Not only should you like their work, but you should like them! Talk to them - learn about them just as they’re learning about you. You should feel comfortable around them!
📸You’ll see on every wedding site that you MUST have a 2nd shooter. I say, ask how your photog prefers to work. Some bring assistants, some bring 2nd shooters, some work solo - your photog will know what’s best based on the extent of your wedding.
📸As much as I love lists/organization, leave it up to your photog if they want a “shot list”. A shot list is a list you give your photog that has “must-have” captures. Why I don’t like them: it may appear like you don’t trust your photog - they literally already know the photos you want because they’re pros & the best photos aren’t planned. Most photogs will ask you to make a list of family members you want photographed & if there’s beef with anyone or if there’s sensitivity (family who has passed).
📸Wedding photography should be around 15% of your total budget - don’t ask for discounts. They literally just met you. If they’re out of your price range, continue to hunt for one that is in your price range.
📸Lastly, you’ll want to book your photog as soon as you have your date. Photogs book quickly, especially if your wedding is in a peak month. Sometimes they’re booked 15 months out!
Bottom line, invest in a good photographer. They provide the memories you get to relive over & over again. Include them in your headcount for food. & tip them. They’re working hard & on their feet for 8+ hours on your wedding day, capturing your pretty face 🥰

Zach and I were discussing our registry. Like us, a lot couples getting married have already established a life together and yeah, a new Kitchen Aid mixer would be great but I don’t bake as often as often as I could use dolla bills 💸 So, how do we say in a nice way that we just want cash if you’re going to give us a gift? Obviously you can’t sound that blunt, rather be sure to sound polite and gracious. Don’t guilt-trip your guests by “telling them what to do” because maybe they weren’t going to give you a gift anyway. To be honest Zach and I don’t expect our guests to give us anything at all and don’t want them to feel obligated - they are already spending a lot of time and money traveling to Mexico for our wedding, but here’s what I posted on our wedding website to respectfully ask for cash in lieu of gifts:

After spending nearly four years together + two babies, we are lucky enough to already have everything we need! So, your presence on our special day is the greatest present of all. However, for those who are thinking of giving a gift, we would greatly appreciate cash. But we are really just happy you’re here, sharing in our journey.

Feel free to snag ☺️ We are not putting this on our invitation - just posting on our website. I’m sure some guests will ask for our registry and I’ll simply say that we don’t have one and your presence is your present 🙃😘

Some of you won’t feel the same way and that’s ok! Every couple is different. Just know that it’s not rude or greedy to want a cash gift. On the other hand, some couples want to upgrade their household items or they didn’t live together before getting married in which a wedding registry is the perfect opportunity for that. Just my two cents 😉

Well hello there, Instagram! Where have I been!? Strange times for the wedding planning & event world so I kinda stepped back. What better time to welcome myself to IG again than with the start of planning my own wedding... & take you on the journey with me! Between Covid & getting pregnant with our 2nd child, we put off the wedding. But now we are ready to start planning for Feb 2022.

If you didn’t know, we are set on having our wedding in Rocky Point, Mexico 🇲🇽 our biggest challenge so far has been trying to find a venue. We really wanted to host our ceremony on the beach at Bella Sirena, but you have to be an owner or family of an owner to have your wedding there 😭 so Zach & I planned a trip to Mexico this weekend to look at other venues. We want our ceremony on the beach at the resort & then our reception at a bar - super laid back & fun 💃🏻 keep an eye out for my stories this weekend! I’ll show you the venues we look at & most importantly, point out things you should look for when booking your venue - questions to ask, what should be or is typically included, contract details, etc. Let the wedding planning commence, OLÉ! 🎉

If you have any questions about wedding planning, feel free to drop them in the comments 👇🏼 or slide in the DMs 🙃

I’ve got the blues!! 💙😍 Guys, I am so obsessed with a blue wedding color palette. One minute I’m like dusty blue is my fav but then I see pale blue, navy blue, indigo, barely blue, aqua blue - I love it all. What’s awesome about blue is that there’s a shade to fit any wedding style: sapphire for modern, navy for traditional, dusty for rustic, etc. What’s your fav wedding color right now?

POSTPONED | have you had to postpone your wedding due to the craziness in the world? We did, BUT IT’S OKAY! When it comes to our wedding day, I was eager and excited - like most brides. I wanted to “get this show on the road”, but deep down, I knew it wouldn’t be the experience we dreamed of. So we are allowing time to pass so that we can fiesta the right way. Plus we want our guests to feel comfortable traveling. So, if you are like me and postponing your special day, I’m here to tell you that it’s going to be worth the wait - no occupancy restrictions, mask requirements and all the other bs. Stay positive because “love is patient” right? 😉 Happy LONG engagement to us! 🤍

What to look for when signing a contract with an event coordinator:

1. Services - be sure that the event coordinator’s services are clearly stated. Don’t be offended if you see a segment in the contract of what event coordinators “don’t do”. This is outlined to protect the efficiency of their work. Event coordinators are not personal assistants - our goal is to make sure your day flows smoothly & logistically. Be sure the contract outlines that goal (post to come about what services to expect from an event coordinator).
2. Cancellations - before signing, read through the cancellation terms carefully. Most deposits/fees are non-refundable - we turned away other potential business for your business. This protects our time & effort, but there are circumstances in which full refunds are valid.
3. Conditions - in my contract, this segment protects me from the actions of other vendors - I am not responsible for their work or their performance. Yes, my goal is to manage your event which includes vendors, but I cannot control if the florist is late or the cake didn’t arrive. It also outlines that the couple is responsible for providing certain information that I need in order to do my part, successfully - contacts, timetables, event changes, etc.
4. Payment Schedule - be sure a schedule is defined, how much & when.

The contract is vital because it sets the standard, holds you & the event coordinator accountable & most importantly, protects both parties. I’d be happy to review a contract you’re thinking about signing with a vendor - hmu!!

01/08/2020

If you plan to serve alcohol at your wedding, it can get really pricey. Obviously, the most inexpensive route is to bring in your own alcohol, but some venues don’t allow that or their licenses prohibit you from doing so. If you find yourself in the latter situation, here are 3 ways to save money or get more bang for your buck on alcohol costs if you’re on a tight budget.

1. Serve only wine and beer. Liquor can be expensive AF. Typically venues buy huge wine bottles that serve around 8 glasses per bottle and beer serves around 100 glasses per keg so whether you pay per head or per drink, it’s significantly cheaper to go this route while still providing a bevy for your guests.

2. If you’re paying per bottle of beer or wine, ask that your bartender pours half glasses. Typically your guests get a drink, set it down and accidentally forget about it. Pouring half glasses leaves less waste.

3. Have you ever considered “shutting down” your bar during dinner? If you’re paying for an open bar and can only afford 3 hours, your money and time will go a lot further if you close your bar during dinner to keep the bar open longer during dancing. Guests shouldn’t really be getting up during dinner anyway and typically, they will get a glass of champagne during this time for toasts. This keeps money in your pocket, doesn’t deprive your guests too much and keeps the party going by “sobering up” your party people during dinner.

These are just some crafty ways to save and stretch a buck during wedding planning. CHEERS 🥂
