I don't know about you, but my daughter's terrible two's were mild-mannered. It was the treacherous three's stage where she acted like a child that did not come through my bloodline; relaxed temperament, obedient and easy. I didn't like her very much at this stage, even though she was an advance and articulate child. I did not subscribe to Dr. Spock's child-rearing philosophy. Most of my technique came by way of my mother's philosophy, which was, if they are not sick, are well fed, or present no feverish state, it was perfectly fine to let her cry because it would only make her lungs stronger.

I was no child expert, however, I quickly came to understand that as long as I addressed her treacherous behavior while in the tantrum act, she would perform to an audience. Soon after I'd ensure that the immediate surrounding space was safe and let her kick it out with no attention or eye contact while her little body moved as if she were inventing a new floor dance. When she would finish her theatrics, it was then that I'd get down to her level with eye contact and talk to her gently and then comfort her while explaining that mommy loved her and that she could not act like that. She'd return the hugs and pull herself together as my mother sat mumbling under her breath, 'I would have tapped her a*z, acting all crazy."

I dared not respond to my mother's words because I had been raised to never have a word war with my elders. It would be considered the ultimate disrespect. The funny thing is my mother tended to spoil my daughter while I was an old-fashioned, strict mother. Fortunately for my daughter, her treacherous threes were short-lived because this mama was not having it. It was as simple as that.

This Googah kid was a baby when he inspired me to write my first children's book. Malaak Kiebre...

The story goes something like this. I was chatting with his mom, via phone one late night about five years ago. Malaak was still wide awake and I was determined to help his mother, my daughter, find a way to put the sand in his eyes.

The next day would follow days and months, creating "The Three Little Rabbits Bedtime Story" that would help both parent and child; a relaxing and soothing read that is simplistic and memorable.......

***Warning to parents. 'The Three Little Rabbits Bedtime Story' will having you yawing....

The word Googah in it's correct spelling is Guga, which means strong and long lasting. It's origin is South African. Our goal is to produce children books and other products with highbrow intake.

We at Googah Publishing encourage you to use this word often with your children, helping to instill identity and great self esteem from it's true meaning.
