SIONYX's original Nightwave was a great low light / night vision camera limited by the integration options. SIONYX has followed up Nightwave with Nightwave Digital and eased a lot of integration challenges. Here's my review:

-Ben S.

For the last 8 years, SIONYX has provided an alternative to thermal night vision cameras. They advertise the sensitivity of their Black Silicon CMOS sensor down to 0.001 LUX or total darkness. In my testing, their cameras have provided truly impressive performance while also displaying full color im...

The end of last year, I posted my first entry comparing the lifespan of a LiFePO4 battery to the claims made by the manufacturer. That entry relied on data from 525 cycles on the battery. Since then, I have continued my testing and added a second battery and testing rig to the mix. Let's check in on...

I'm working on a full review of SIONYX's Nightwave Digital camera. This side by side comparison of Nightwave Digital, a FLIR M364C and a DJI OSMO Action 4 camera gives a good idea of the differences in performance between them. The M364C is a powerful tool, but for casual low to no light boating, I find the Nightwave really easy to use and quick for my brain to interpret.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show afforded me the opportunity to catch up with Rufus Van Gruisen from Cay Electronics and learn more about the CayCube, a self contained, battery based power system.

Continuing my tour of new products in Miami... The Digital Yacht veLINK connects to up to 8 Victron Energy B.V. Bluetooth devices and shares their data onto the NMEA 2000 network. I think it fills a hole between fully integrated Cerbo installs and smaller installations. Plus, it provides an integration path for Bluetooth only Victron products.

-Ben S.

Digital Yacht has been on a roll recently with clever, relatively simple products to solve specific needs. Well, they've done it agian. This time, Digital Yacht has introduced a small converter that connects to Victron products via Bluetooth, convert their data, and share it on a NMEA 2000 network.....

I am back from the 2026 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show (DBMIBS) and saw several interesting new products while there. I had the opportunity to catch up with representatives of the companies and get a quick video explaining each new product. First up is Furuno Marine Electronics with two new MFDs, the TZtouchE all touch MFD and the TZMap standalone MFD. Furuno's Matt Wood introduces the lineup

It's long past the point where Panbo should have an official Instagram account. I created one some time ago but failed at keeping it current. At recent shows, I've been posting to it more.

Please take a look and follow at https://www.instagram.com/panbomarine/.

-Ben S.

P.S. I'm trying to get the two accounts linked but Meta's business suite is fighting me every step of the way. If anyone is familiar with the business suite and working through linking issues, I'd really love to hear from youl

Hikoterra is taking a fresh look at AC and DC power systems on boats. With a battery fist approach, they aim to eliminate or minimize generator run time. The modular system promises a dramatic reduction in installation time and greater operational simplicity.

Have you ever wondered if LiFePO4 battery cycle ratings are actually accurate? No? Am I the only one? Oh well, I've done a lot of testing to try and determine their accuracy. Here is what I've found so far.

-Ben S.

One of the biggest advantages of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) batteries is their cycle life. A LiFePO4 battery is likely to last thousands of cycles compared to hundreds of cycles for most lead-acid chemistries. While shopping for batteries, you are likely to see cycle ratings ranging fro...

I'd spend the weekend on a boat most anywhere. The opportunity to spend that weekend in Florida's Keys, surrounded by new technology, experienced boaters, and my colleagues was an over-the-top amazing experience. Thanks Dometic for a great weekend and the opportunity to check our your DG3 gyroscopic stabilizer.

-Ben S.

Panbo's Ben Stein spent the weekend in the Florida Keys testing Dometic's DG3 gyroscopic stabilizer. Read up on the results
