Wow 😮 HEADS UP FRANKLIN PEOPS!!!
So apparently it is perfectly legal for a restaurant or bar to use the latest mic technology to record every detail of the private conversations of their customers. ..And apparently they can use it however they like, for personal vendettas, targeting other business owners, or whatever. Apparently that’s completely legal! I guess wiretapping and eavesdropping laws don’t apply in today’s world. THERE ARE NC GENERAL STATUTES AGAINST THIS. What do you think?! SHOULD THIS BE LEGAL? Or should private citizens have our privacy rights protected against high tech microphones and listening devices?

They raised $365 with Halloween Boo Grams, candy-filled bags with a personalized message, were delivered to faculty, staff, and students on the two campuses. Ingles, again, also provided generous donations to help make this fundraiser possible. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, who participated in this fundraiser which will be used for education, advocacy, research and support! Go Team!

Make sure to protect yourselves from mosquitoes when possible whenever you go outdoors these days. From the Center for Disease Control:

2012 West Nile virus update: as of August 21

Thus far in 2012, 47 states have reported West Nile virus infections in people, birds, or mosquitoes. A total of 1118 cases of West Nile virus disease in people, including 41 deaths, have been reported to CDC. Of these, 629 (56%) were classified as neuroinvasive disease (such as meningitis or encephalitis) and 489 (44%) were classified as non-neuroinvasive disease.

The 1118 cases reported thus far in 2012 is the highest number of West Nile virus disease cases reported to CDC through the third week in August since West Nile virus was first detected in the United States in 1999. Approximately 75 percent of the cases have been reported from 5 states (Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Dakota, and Oklahoma) and almost half of all cases have been reported from Texas.

While there's good news for the state of North Carolina, there is potentially bad news for the western North Carolina region when you consider the statistics in Georgia:

CANCER PREVENTION STUDY-3 (CPS-3)
Research today for a cancer-free tomorrow.
The Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) is helping to create a world with less cancer...and more birthdays. CPS-3 is a grassroots effort where local communities from across the country can support cancer research not just through fundraising efforts, but also by participating actively in this historic research study.
The American Cancer Society’s Epidemiology Research Program is inviting men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 years who have never personally been diagnosed with cancer to join this historic study. The ultimate goal is to enroll at least 300,000 adults from various racial/ethnic backgrounds from across the U.S. The purpose of CPS-3 is to better understand the lifestyle, behavioral, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer and to ultimately eliminate cancer as a major health problem for this and future generations.
Participation is easy and enrollment is available in your local community. Local enrollment is being made possible in partnership with the Lelia Patterson Center, M.R. Pardee Memorial Hospital and Mission Hospital. For more information and to register today, use the link below. Thank you!
