Decameron Opera Coalition, welcome to the platform!

We're excited to announce that DOC is moving to AÏRIS, effective August 1st.

Born out of necessity, DOC is a collaboration of unparalleled scope that aims to keep opera vibrant and new work thriving. The coalition members commission opera’s most diverse creative voices to illuminate America’s indie scene—with a dedication to new sounds, unparalleled storytelling, and underrepresented voices. The Decameron Opera Coalition is the future of opera.

The coalition is made of nine indie companies from across the US: Resonance Works [Pittsburgh], Lyric Opera of the North [Duluth], UrbanArias [Washington DC], Bare Opera [NYC], Opera in the Heights [Houston], Chicago Fringe Opera, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, Fargo-Moorhead Opera, and An Opera Theatre [Minneapolis], along with composer and librettist Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi (The Last American Hammer).

We're saddened to share the sudden passing of David Bradke, a beloved man, talented lighting designer and lighting director.

David had an illustrious career, both as a member of the technical staff of the Oprah Winfrey Show, and in lighting opera stages and designing productions across the country. He was a key collaborator during the digital season Valhalla Media filmed with Chicago Opera Theater. David is survived by his wife Anya, and their daughter Aurora. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his daughter’s college fund.
