I just don’t see Christians of the early church so caught up in their political atmosphere as modern day Christians in America.
They certainly lived in a dangerous political environment, they just never whined and feared and infatuated like the modern church.
Maybe it’s because they didn’t see themselves as Jews first, or Romans first, or Philippians first.
They were Sons and Daughters of God first.
They never lost their true identity, even though they were being tortured, starved, persecuted, exploited, expelled, and executed.
They were not prisoners of the moment, but they were conscious of the true Kingdom to which they were aligned.
In the last couple weeks, I’ve seen people who claim to understand and know their identity as Christians get completely lost in their political affiliations. They brag about their candidate, complain about the other ones, and fear monger to the point of hilarity for someone in their position.
Don’t you know who you are????
Perhaps the words of Apostle Peter to the scattered Jews in Asia Minor were written for just such times and problems:
“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into HIS marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
Stop identifying as Americans and start identifying as The Chosen, The Royal Priesthood!
Stop bickering with the world and seeing a political victory as a spiritual victory, or a political loss as a spiritual loss.
You don’t fight against flesh and blood, you fight against spiritual wickedness.
Our God reigns above all, including the Oval Office; how quickly we seem to have forgotten that!
