A winter storm will be affecting much of the East, including my hometown of .
Winter Travel Preparedness Tips ❄️🚗
🔹 BEFORE THE STORM:
✔️ Get a vehicle tune-up: Check tires, fluids, wipers & fill your gas tank.
✔️ Pack an emergency kit: Water, snacks, blankets, flashlight, jumper cables, ice scraper, shovel, warm clothing, phone charger & more.
✔️ Stay updated on the forecast with local meteorologists, including
✔️ Be prepared for power outages. (Remember, only run a gas generator outdoors away from windows and vents)!
🔹 DURING THE STORM:
⚠️ Avoid travel unless necessary.
📍 Inform someone of your route if you must drive.
🚨 If stranded, stay in your vehicle, call for help & run the engine periodically for warmth (keep the exhaust pipe area clear to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning).
🛑 Brake & accelerate slowly—avoid sudden stops.
⏳ Increase following distance & avoid cruise control.
⚠️ Watch for black ice, especially on bridges.
🔹 AFTER THE STORM:
🕓 Wait for road crews to clear & treat roads.
❄️ Remove all snow/ice from your vehicle before driving.
‼️ Don’t over exert yourself when shoveling. Ask for help.
🚗 Wash your car to prevent rust from road salt.
