In one of the most exciting classes of the entire 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel, the Short Stirrups 10 & Under, Dylan Pearl Baker claimed the championship in both slates, and the high point as well.

"He's just such a good horse," said Baker of Rambowhizz, the 7-year-old gelding owned by her grandma, Anita Horn, who she rides. "He's so patient with me while I'm learning."

Congratulations to all of these youth who make up the future of the reining industry!

Leonardo Kellermann and Magoworthy scored a 221 to secure a win in the Level 1 Open Derby at the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel.

Magoworthy, a 5-year-old stallion by NRHA Seven Million Dollar Sire Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Banjoes Shining Star, was bred and nominated Terry Leffew.

“This means everything,” said Kellermann. “Me and my family, we’ve been working on this for a long time, so to be able to come here and get a good performance was amazing.”

Kellermann thanked Leffew, the team at Seven Lakes Performance Horses, his family, and his friends.

Dan Huss and Thee American Dream claimed their share of the three-way tie in the Level 2 Open Derby with a score of 223.5.

Thee American Dream, a 7-year-old gelding by NRHA Eleven Million Dollar Sire Magnum Chic Dream out of Gunner Git Ya Dun, was bred and nominated by Pete and Tamra Kyle.

The gelding also qualified for the Non Pro Derby finals in the Masters with his owner, Morris Kulmer.

“He is certainly a good horse,” said Huss. “He stayed smooth and even keeled the whole way which let me show him on a really loose rein.”

Huss thanked his wife for taking care of all the work at home and dressing him for the show pen, and Kulmer for letting him show the horse.

Nicole Renick and TR Dream About Me claimed their portion of the three-way tie for champion in the Level 2 Open Derby at the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel.

“I truly call him a unicorn, he is once in a lifetime,” said Renick. “He’s been in my program since the summer of his two-year-old year, and I’ve always had 100% faith in this horse.”

TR Dream About Me, a 2017 gelding by NRHA Eleven Million Dollar Sire Magnum Chic Dream out of Redhot Walla, was bred and nominated by Tamarack Ranch.

This win in the Level 2 and placings in the Level 3 earned the pair just shy of $24,000. Going forward, the gelding will be back in the pen with his owner and non pro rider, Steven Sandvig.

Renick thanked Sandvig for letting her show the gelding, her fiance, Adam, for helping her, and all of her clients who came to support her.

Jordan Larson, NRHA Three Million Dollar Rider, and Need I Say Mor won the Level 3 Open Derby at the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel with a score of 226.5.

Need I Say Mor, a 4-year-old stallion, by Gunnatrashya out of Shesouttayourleague, was bred by Curtis Performance Horses, nominated by Brooke Wharton, and is owned by Ixtul Quarter Horses. The stallion was previously trained and shown by NRHA Four Million Dollar Rider Casey Deary, so this was only the second time Larson had taken him in the pen.

“I’ve never won anything in the Level 3 before, so I am really happy it went this way,” said Larson. “It’s taken a minute to get to know this horse but we seem to have gotten it together.”

Larson thanked Ixtul Quarter Horses for letting him show the horse, his wife, and God for giving him the opportunity to ride great horses.
