Here’s what we know, authorities reported According to a source familiar with the matter, Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, was stabbed by another inmate and seriously injured at a federal prison in Arizona.

The attack took place at the Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, which has been dealing with security issues and staffing shortages. The Bureau of Prisons confirmed the assault and stated that the inmate received medical attention. No employees were harmed, and the FBI was notified.

Visiting at the facility has been temporarily suspended. This incident follows a similar attack on another high-profile federal prisoner, Larry Nassar, in July. It also marks the second major incident at the Tucson federal prison in a little over a year. Derek Chauvin, who is serving both a federal and state sentence, had previously been kept in solitary confinement for his protection.

Last week, the Supreme Court rejected Chauvin's appeal of his murder conviction. The incident highlights ongoing scrutiny of the Bureau of Prisons, which has been criticized for its handling of high-profile prisoners and its internal practices.

Here what we know, authorities Reported that; The Supreme Court has declined to review former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin's conviction for the murder of George Floyd. Chauvin had asked the court to hear his case after Minnesota's highest court refused to do so. The justices have chosen not to take up Chauvin's appeal, allowing his conviction to stand.

Chauvin's conviction stemmed from the widely shared video footage showing him kneeling on Floyd's neck for over nine minutes while Floyd pleaded, "I can't breathe." The incident sparked protests and ignited the Black Lives Matter movement worldwide.

After nearly 11 months, a jury found Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. He is currently serving a prison sentence of over 22 years.

Chauvin sought the Supreme Court's review on grounds that he was denied a change of venue for his trial and that there were allegations of juror misconduct. His attorney argued that the intense media coverage and fears of riots in Minneapolis may have influenced the jurors' decision.

In addition to his murder conviction, Chauvin pleaded guilty to federal charges related to violating Floyd's civil rights and was sentenced to 252 months in prison. He recently attempted to overturn this conviction, claiming new evidence that challenges his responsibility for Floyd's death.

Prosecutors stated that the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on May 6, 2022, when a Secret Service police officer tried to stop Taylor's Nissan Altima near Massachusetts Avenue and 17th Street NW. However, Taylor had other plans and did not comply with the officer's instructions.

During the crash investigation, a weapon was discovered on the front passenger floorboard of Taylor's Nissan, as noted by the police.

However, he was acquitted of unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a license, and lesser fi****ms offenses.

Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced in mid-January, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for his actions.
