I can't wait for my second year attending RMC SCBWI Letters & Lines in just a few short weeks!

Last year, I knew no one and had a very rough manuscript. I set the intention to put myself out there and talk to as many people as I could, learn as much as I could, and work as hard as I could.

Now, I have an incredible community, a critique group of published authors and friends, a completed mentorship with .gard, and I'm agented with two books out on sub.

I’m officially ! Two of my picture book manuscripts are being shopped around out in the world. It’s surreal, exciting, and nerve wracking all at once. Thank you to my awesome agent for getting these out there!

It’s been a bittersweet few weeks, with Sutton graduating preschool and Winnie turning three.

Sweet to see them growing more independent, more confident, even more sassy. Sweet to watch their bond get tighter. Sweet to have more time to myself, to work, to write, to flex my grown up brain, to talk to adults in complete sentences.

Bitter that they aren’t babies anymore, that soon they’ll be spending so many of their waking hours without me. Sutton, especially. Five has been so good and now I have to give her to kindergarten.

Bitter and sweet, indeed. I’m going to hang on to this summer as hard as I can with all the sticky popsicle kisses, sunscreen hair, and sprinkler parties I can possibly get.

One year ago, I launched Caitlin Rose Writes into the world with a mission to tell stories - yours and mine. I also committed to following my dream of becoming a children’s author. Now, I have some incredible news to share.

I have accepted an offer of representation from Lary Rosenblatt at . Lary, Barbara and their team will be preparing my books to go on submission to editors and publishers, in the hopes that they will be purchased for publication and finally, out in the world and in the hands of our children.

And of course, I’ll also continue helping you tell YOUR stories too. What a happy way to celebrate one year of Caitlin Rose Writes! https://www.caitlinrosewrites.com/blog/its-my-anniversary-and-i-have-some-news

Sutton turned five on Monday. Five. Half a decade of being a mom. Half a decade of trying my best, failing, and trying to be better again. And again. On loop.

This quote on the gorgeous mural at sums all of it up so perfectly. Childhood, parenthood, all of it.

Fall. Fail. Fly.

One thing I'm learning about is the community is amazing! Authors are so generous with their time and insights and offer up opportunities to connect and learn. Today I entered the Kids' Choice KitLit Writing Contest with an excerpt from a story I'm working on about Dr. Oink:

Another amazing writing contest from the generous community.

Meet my new writing buddy, carpool lane companion, and overall excellent doggo. Aptly named Frances, because she looks just like Frances the badger.

Franny had 6 puppies recently and was looking for a cozy home to get all the pets and naps she deserves. It’s been too long since we had a dog in the house and she’s filling so many voids.

I also think she could make an excellent book character and would be so fun to illustrate! Her brow (and beard) game is on point.

Way before I started my own journey, I looked to children’s books for inspiration! Two years ago I dressed up Sutton and Winnie (then only 2 and 5 months old!) as favorite characters for 13 days of Halloween costumes. Recognize any of your favorites?

I'm so excited to share my entry for Fall Writing Frenzy '23! We were given a group of photos to choose from as inspiration for a 200 word or less story. I chose this image of young girls playing in the falling leaves.

"Crispy Air, Crunchy Leaves" is a story about the pure magic children can create with just a pile of fall leaves. My entry is up now on my blog: https://www.caitlinrosewrites.com/blog/fall-writing-frenzy

Today is !

We read a lot in my house. I usually read at least 50 books a year. Because books are amazing, and because I'm very bad at sleeping.

And that's obviously not counting picture books... On any given day, we read at least 10 -20, often more. My girls are growing up loving books, reading, and escaping into stories.

I just finished Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano last night and I devoured every word. My all-time favorite book has to The Great Gatsby. Basic? Maybe. But I don't care! It's a classic for a reason.

Sutton's perennial favorite is Creepy Underwear, but she also loves Julia Donaldson stories, Angelina Ballerina and our shared favorite, Brendan Wenzel's incredible and beautiful books.

Winnie loves dinosaurs. So if it has a dinosaur, she's happy. Current favorites also include Snakes in Space, Tabby McTat, Thomas (aka Hummus) the Train and Brown Bear.

What are you reading? What are your or your children's favorites?
