First new post in a long while. Canton Repository ad for the Friday, October 10, 1969 programming. The High School games were-Friday Canton McKinley-Niles and Saturday Canton Timken-Salem both at Fawcett Stadium. The ad is a unique style I had never seen for them before.

My friend Jerry Immel has found another nugget concerning early WJAN News/ Weather/Sportscaster John Philp, who had a good career in Atlanta following WJAN..These are probably from 1968-A sales pamphlet or booklet apparently..I am going to try and post each photo separately..Rare views of the early WJAN News and Weather Set..

A long forgotten name at WJAN-TV-John Philp..(Even I had not heard of him before this.) He was Sports Director in 1968-69 under John Baker..He moved to Atlanta and WSB-TV 2 as a reporter from 1969-Mid 70s when he left to take a Public Relations job at United Airlines. This was part of a brief experiment by The Cleveland Plain Dealer to publish daily Out of Town TV Schedules..Toledo and Youngstown are included. This was only done for a few months in 1973.

1976 Warner Cable Guide-WJAN-17 was on Channel 4.

1976-Warner Cable Canton Lineup-All Network affiliates plus channels 17 and 43. Also there was "Star Channel" for new movies..You could pick up channels either part or full time, from Cleveland, Youngstown, Akron, Canton, Steubenville/Wheeling and KDKA-2 Pittsburgh..Still plenty to watch..Courtesy Pop Culture Page Channel 84.

Here are listings for The WJAN-TV 17 Chuck Healy Show from April 2-July 27, 1973..As would be expected, mostly local guests. Some other notes: Not every date was listed-These have "TBA' for To Be Announced. The later the dates the more "TBA's" there are. Also, several guests became almost "regulars" as they were listed 3-4 times.
Subjects were pretty much of the time..Sprinkled throughout the list are a number of nationally known celebrities..Interesting time capsule..

Announcement:I have been able, through the Akron Beacon Journal Archives, to find a guest list of The Chuck Healy Show from April 1-July 17, 1973..Most weeks after May are missing and nothing past July 17 I could find..Chuck Healy was at TV 17 just in 1973-74 as far as I can tell..I will do a notepad of the weeks I have and post them as soon as they are finished. I will try to do the same for other hosts..

TBN has sold the license and facilities of WDLI-17 to ION Networks. As of a few weeks ago, WDLI's digital channel has moved to RF channel 23 (later to be 22) with the rest of the WVPX Ion and shopping channels. 17-1 is now Ion Life and TBN, after 32 years is no longer offered over the air in the Canton area..

I (Tim Lones) have recently had a couple private messages regarding the future of WDLI-17's digital subchannels because of the channel "repack".
This site has no affiliation with or endorsement by, Trinity Broadcasting Network or the local staff/management of WDLI-TV. I cannot answer such questions. If TBN decides to announce such plans, I will post them here. Otherwise I know nothing about any future plans..Contact TBN or the local operators..Thanks..
