I Had the pleasure of trying the new releases from today. While neither the 2022 Chardonnay or Pinot disappointed, I think the 2016s were still the front runner for me. The 2016 Chardonnay was holding its body well and had high notes of butterscotch, passionfruit, apple and honey. On the pallet, the wine was smooth, round and slightly creamy with a balanced finish. The chef had perfectly paired this with a slightly spicy shrimp and grits. At eight years young this Chardonnay still has room to grow and has a round, mouthful of flavor that I hope the 2022 will express. The 2016 Pinot was nothing but exceptional. A magnificent rendition of Pinot Noir that you could easily mistake for a high dollar Burgundy. Black cherry, boysenberry, notes of Carmel and nutmeg just bounce off the nose and pallet. The 2016 Pinot should continue to age well, but why wait? Keep those magnificent wines coming!

Lamb Ossobuco and Parmesan risotto paired with a 2008 Towmey Merlot - the perfect pair! A cranberry mirepoix added some brightness that brought out the fruit in the wine. The berry and red fruit nose was subdued, but evident even after 16 years. Amazing structure and balance in the pallet with classic merlot features. The tannin was soft and blended and hung well on the finish with classic chocolate and plum in an evenly balanced dance of flavors.

Easy drinking Pinot!

Fantastic Argentinian Malbec aged in oak! Beautiful with the dry aged, bone in NY strip steak. A very plush nose with Baking spice and vanilla right on top. It mellows out with a classic Malbec finish. A must have with any high end steak pairing.

We had a friend bring this back recently from Corsica. It was an outstanding example of how good an inexpensive Rose wine can be. When most Americans are used to paying $20 for a mid-shelf rose, $5 wine probably sounds like a joke, right?

This wine had a lovely nose with Jasmine, honeysuckle and a hint of peach. The pallet was balanced with citrus fruits, honey and vanilla. The wine has a solid body with enough acidity that it held up exceptionally well to the grilled salmon. The finish was moderate, but much longer than I expected and was a pleasant surprise.

You could easily drink this wine alone or with food. As a merlot-Nielluccio-Sciacarello blend, this wine had a character you would expect is a more expensive wine.

This was my first experience with the Corsican varietals and I could definitely see how the Nielluccio is a cousin to Sangiovese!

It’s a Good Friday…! Enjoying some of the new releases from - loving the Pinot Clair! Reminds me of spring in a glass. Honeysuckle and wild flowers wrapped up in a White Pinot noir, with a mineral edge. Lovely!

Lokelani Sparkling Rosé

A local vineyard on Maui produces this wonderful brut rose made in the traditional method (Methode Champenoise). The wine has a very pale body and a pleasing effervescent bouquet. The faint scent of orange blossom, peach and a light hint of lemon greet you. The wine is a Chardonnay / Pinot Noir blend that expresses the Chardonnay across Your pallet and the Pinot Noir on the finish. At 12.5% alcohol, this should be drank upon purchase and enjoyed!

This is a versatile Zinfandel that should be drank upon purchase. It isn't quite summer yet, but this is the right wine for a BBQ! Get back to the basics with a little winter time grilling and this wine is perfect for it. This is a dry wine, with medium acidity and medium tannins. The palate savors dark fruits, cherry, plum, candied fruits and a hint of to***co on the finish. At 14.8% alcohol, the wine has a long, dry finish.

Had dinner at the local Michelin Star tonight for an early anniversary celebration. Several courses, but had an amazing Gewürztraminer with a beautiful Parmesan cream and Dungeness crab soufflé. Followed by…Halibut with a Burgundian Pinot? Yes, white fish can work with red wine. The celeriac purée had a strong earthy tone that blended with the perfectly cooked halibut and brought out everything this French red had to offer.
