Last weekend was the weekend from hell. America and the rest of the world endured the aftermath of two tragedies, one after another. These kinds of horrible, unspeakable crimes have a way of unleashing a response from people that is worth noting. Since this is not the first time that shootings have happened in America, almost everyone expects and responds in a very predictable manner. From one tragedy to another, we are accustomed to hear and read about the left-wing gun banners and right-wing gun supporters. Then, people who had the unfortunate luck to endure the pain of loss, are forgotten and left unanswered for the injustice that has happened while the rhetoric of politics, masked under the banner of offering a solution, manifests itself on the mainstream media. One more time, the evil strikes two times, the obvious one, that being, its manifestation physically with bodies lying on the street and metaphysically, through the inability of the thought leaders to lay aside their agenda and offer a solution. Although what happened in Dayton and El Paso was unspeakably evil, it is nonetheless evil to politicize the tragedy. It is evil because the rightful response does not get its two minutes in the light of the cameras of the mainstream media. How could it? Everyone has their agenda. To incorporate tragedy to one’s agenda, I would argue, is almost as evil as the tragedy itself.
