December 1 was the 34th anniversary of a very profound and protracted UFO sighting that my mother and I shared, an experience in which the craft interacted with us in close proximity.
Here’s what happened:
On Friday, December 1, 1989, in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri called Raytown, in the predawn hour, my mother came running into my room, excitedly calling my name and telling me I needed to come out to the living room to look at something. I was a terrible student and I didn’t sleep well at that time, so for my mother to do this on a school day, or ever, meant that something very out of the ordinary was happening.
The front wall of our living room was essentially one very large French window which faced due west. As I looked out across the street, over the horizon of the neighbor’s roof and at a distance, was a bright spot that looked like any other star in the dark sky. My mom told me to watch it and see what it did.
A moment later it started to zip around the sky in a triangular pattern. It did not speed up, nor slow down. It moved at full velocity from one point to the next. And once it stopped, it was perfectly motionless.
My mother and I watched it move around the sky for a long time.
The next thing I recall, it was full daylight, and the craft was MUCH closer. It appeared to be right across the street and no more than 200 feet in the air. I could see minute details of the craft: it was the classic metallic saucer shape. It had half spheres arranged around the outer perimeter of the craft’s bottom. These half spheres reminded me of stage lights, though they were not illuminated. And every time the craft zipped to the right, the entire configuration on the bottom would rotate clockwise. When it went left, counterclockwise.
At this close distance, the craft continued to zip around in a triangular pattern.
As it was now full daylight, the older of my two younger sisters started waking up, and my mom needed to go take care of her. She told me to stay there and watch it.
As soon as my mom left the room, the craft became perfectly motionless for an extended period of time. At this close distance I could easily see that it was perfectly motionless while suspended in the air.
After several moments, the configuration on the bottom began to spin very fast, and the craft shot straight up and left the atmosphere in a small fraction of a second.
My mom, youngest sister, and I were talking about this experience a few minutes ago. During our conversation, they looked up other reports from that same date. It turns out that there were sightings on the same day in nearby locations in Missouri and, indeed, a rash of sightings throughout many states in the country, from Texas to Florida to Indiana. Thank you, Tana Russell and Felicity Monsees for looking up this information.
