We are fairly new to the RV life, but not new to travel. Unfortunately, Glenn has suffered from back & nerve problems for many years, and it has gotten worse. During treatment, he developed a couple auto-immune diseases that severely impacted his life. Travel became nearly impossible due to related issues. And when he had to travel, he would have to stop eating a day ahead of the travel date. As you can imagine, that had a huge impact on his life.
For the last few years Glenn has mostly stayed at home, or close to it. That is no way to live, and no relief in sight. Glenn and Sheila started talking about ways to be able to get out and travel. After some discussion, the hunt for an RV was on. This would allow us to be together, get out of the house, and travel. Travel on our time line, at our leisure, and with all of the facilities Glenn needs coupled right to our truck.
After visiting many RV dealerships, we found a Forest River Cherokee that met our needs. Our first trip out, we also found that our Dodge MegaCab truck struggled with the weight. A used Chevy Silverado with the 6.6 Duramax diesel soon replaced the Dodge. The older Chevy pulls the trailer like a dream.
So far, we have stayed at a few local RV parks just to work out the kinks, figure out what we need, etc... what works, what doesn't. We then set off to the California Coast. A great two week trip, at our pace, on our schedule. It was lovely.
