The 33rd annual Center a La Carte event took place on Thursday, April 24th at the Asbury Park Convention Center. This year’s theme, “A Wicked Good Time” was inspired by the hit musical and movie, Wicked. More than 400 guests packed Convention Hall for food, entertainment, and community support, raising over $125,000 for The Center in Asbury Park, a volunteer-based not-for-profit organization, providing support services for people living with HIV/AIDS....

After eighteen months of back-and-forth and often contentious negotiations, the Council has voted to send JDL Investment Group's latest revised development plan to the planning board for consideration. The plan preserves the structure of the historic church which becomes a music, art and performance venue. Asbury Park has lost one of its greatest entertainers. Lenny Welch, best known for his hit recordings of “Since I Fell For You,” “You Don’t Know Me,” “Ebb Tide,” and “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do,” passed away April 8 in Florida at age 85. Leon “Lenny” Welch was born in Harlem Hospital, New York City, on May 31, 1940. With the separation of his parents, Leon spent the first five years of his life living with foster parents Eva and Robert Richardson in Neptune....

The 23rd Annual Garden State Film Festival (GSFF), was held this past March 27- 30 in Asbury Park and Cranford, New Jersey. The GSFF held screenings and events at seven locations across Asbury, including Asbury Lanes, Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, Asbury Hotel, Cranford Theater, Jersey Shore Arts Center, Seahorse, and Porta. The community came out to celebrate its heritage right in the midst of where their history was made. The Springwood Avenue Heritage Walk Committee held its Roots and Rhythm Open House for the announcement of the Springwood Avenue Heritage Walk at the Interfaith Neighbors Launch Center, 1201 Springwood Avenue, Asbury Park. On March 8, 2025, Asbury Park Cooperative Book Store opened its doors to introduce another first-time author to its customers. But this writer had learned his first English words from a tattered English dictionary that he found in a garbage can near Port-au- Prince, Haiti, the capital of his home country. Asbury Park hosted the first Color & Light Festival in Bradley Park on March 21st and 22nd. The rough winds of March kept many at home on Friday, but Saturday’s more temperate weather brought some 5,000 spectators to Bradley Park to witness the transformation of the Paramount Theater as it morphed into a kaleidoscope of colors and images set to music....
