This old buck wrote his own fate when he regularly started daylighting in early October. It doesn’t happen very often, but if you can dial in where they’re bedding, you can often times find them on their feet in shooting hours. When I was looking for him after the shot, I noticed 15+ active scrapes around where I thought he was bedding. This is ultimately what sealed the deal. He came directly down his scrape line and hit three of them in front of me before taking an arrow. There’s a cold front is moving in later this week. Mid to late October can be a deadly time of year if the temps drop. Good luck!

I’m usually so invested in whitetails every year that I rarely make time for the duck blind even though I enjoy the hell out it. I decided I’d give myself a little motivation to go and picked up this little dude. Excited to see what he turns into in a few years. Also, this gives me an excuse to throw up a few duck shots 🦆

What are you packing in the thermos for the glassing k**b? My go to is leftover chili.. Probably not the best choice when in the back country hiking 10 plus miles a day but man I can’t help it.. 😬

All jokes aside, I miss the feeling of extreme exhaustion that I remember from this trip. The miles on the boots, the elevation gained, the wear and tear on the body. I miss that. We came back empty handed, but we damn sure gave those deer a run for their money. Multiple opportunities arose, but the luck just wasn’t on our side. Our faces tell it all in the second slide. Broken and beat down, but loving every second.

Well, I’m packing up my game and Im’a head out West. - Kid Rock

For real though, I’ve got multiple Western trips on the drawing board this year, and an ambitious mindset. I’m ready for it! There’s nothing like watching the sun rise from a high up ridge top and. 🏔

17/05/2021

Summer months approaching, and antlers are growing. My time and mindset have switched to whitetail prep! It won’t be long an we’ll all be 20 feet up. 🦌

12/05/2021

4 months away from the most adrenaline packed month of the year.
Who’s hitting the mountains this September?

11/05/2021

I’d rather it be 20 degrees and in the middle of November, but sometimes it’s hard to beat throwing back latte’s and ripping lips on the water.

Score at the end of Turkey season.

Turkey - 21
Ticks - 1000
Ryan - 0

It’s been rough season in the turkey woods. On a positive note though, we’re now closer to deer season. That’s really all that matters anyway, right?

This old Tom might have gotten the best of me, but he sure put on a show. I’m back in the woods this morning trying to make it happen with only a few days of season left. The shotgun has now made an appearance as desperate times lead to desperate measures..

My favorite thing about this time of year is new growth. Bucks are packing on antler size at rapid rates, and does will be dropping fawns shortly. Watching the growth of these animals in preparation for fall is simply amazing. Nature is cool.

I still remember the exact moment this picture was taken. This was my first bull I’d ever killed, or even been this close to. And coming from a whitetail hunter in the south I’m pretty sure I was thinking “holy s**t this animals big, how are we packing this off the mountain?”
Anyone else ready for some mountain air and bugling bulls?

I was able film my buddy put together one of my 2019 bucks a few days ago. I’ve watched him a few times do this with my mounts, and each time I’m still blown away at the detail, and skill it takes to bring these animals back to life. From the built up roman nose, the blind eye, and split ear, the meticulous details bring me back to the day I was able to arrow this public land tank of a buck. Such a cool experience from the harvest, to watching him become wall ready.

The first phone call.

My old man is always my first call after I arrow an animal. He’s always so excited to hear the story, what stand I was hunting, and how big the buck is. These are always the details he can’t wait to hear. I cherish these calls to him. These are special. Anyone else have someone they call first every time?

Thankful for the opportunity. Thankful for the animal.
Walking up on an animal that was just living, just breathing, and one you’ve put so much time and effort hunting is an emotional experience when you finally get the job done. This feeling never gets old, and humbles me every time.

As I’ve started to venture out West more and more, I’ve become captivated by western style hunting, and the abundant opportunities and diversity of animals it brings. That being said, there’s still just something about a big mature whitetail that gets me more excited than anything else.🦌
