Messy into Sunday

Good eve. We are tracking a messy storm on the way for Friday night into Saturday and even going into early next week! A tough forecast is ahead for this weekend with snow, sleet, rain and even freezing rain which will make for dangerous travel impacts! A warm front will be moving in from the south with plenty of moisture moving in from Canada with a sharp temperature gradient! This makes for a messy storm. Models are all in agreement on several different precipitation impacts! Here’s my current thinking. The best chance for a swath of heavy snow FRI night into SAT looks to be across Northern VT into Northern NH into Western ME with accumulations even making it towards the coast of ME on Friday night, Saturday. Even with temps near or just below 32 to the south of that darker blue, mixing is likely due to warmer temperatures up aloft a few thousand feet above our heads. This will bring sleet and some freezing rain instead of snow Saturday with maybe 2-3” before that changeover. This will be a VERY SHARP CUTOFF and will snow heavy just north of the mixing! The potential is there for a swath of 5-8” of snow where it stays all snow with the potential for locally higher amounts. Rain is likely across SNE as temperatures may be near 80 across CT and only in the 30s, 40s just north with that warm front! Unreal. The heaviest precipitation on SAT looks to be during Friday night and during the first half of the day on Saturday before lightening up Saturday afternoon. 🚨 A lull likely SAT eve, night before WIDESPREAD mixed precipitation likely across NY, VT, NH, ME on Sunday as more warmer air gets involved and more precipitation moving in with plain rain by Monday as showers look likely. This is a sharp gradient forecast and is a complex one! Snow maps will come Friday AM. Stay tuned!

Here we go! Winter ain’t done with us yet! Last week I made a post saying that Winter isn’t done yet across New England as we head closer to April. Our first system is on the way for your Monday to kick off the workweek with difficult travel expected. Our system moves in tomorrow morning as you can see on the slides with the timing. Northern Massachusetts likely starts off as a quick burst of snow before going over to rain by noon. A quick coating-1”. Snow is expected to intensify into the afternoon, evening hours across central New Hampshire into Maine and even towards the coast of Maine. Snowfall rates of 1-2” of snow per hour are possible! I am forecasting 2-4” of snow for central, southern Vermont with a jackpot zone of 4-6” across the White Mountains into all of central Maine to the Canadian border. Again, precipitation will quickly get its act together Monday afternoon with steadier bands of snow across the white mountains into Maine during the afternoon into the evening. Tough travel expected! Temps in the low to mid 30s but likely struggling to get to the mid 30s away from the Maine coast. I am expecting a change to rain along the coast of Maine by the evening after 2-4” of snow falls but most likely remains mostly all snow just inland. A wetter snow consistency can be expected near the coast with better ratios inland. This moves out by 9-10 PM with some lingering snow showers/squalls Monday night, Tuesday. I am also watching the potential for a sneaky snow potential across eastern New England Wednesday, Wednesday night as moisture offshore may try to get its act together to potentially throw in some snow near the coast and pop a low pressure but I’d lean for a better chance of this staying offshore as of now but we will watch this! Also watching a system for next weekend which may bring more winter weather across the interior! We are busy through early April folks. Winter ain’t done with us yet! I’ll keep you updated and get ready for a snowy Monday for many!

Today may be the first day of Spring but Winter ain’t over yet folks. The recent rain has certainly taken a big hit across the ski resorts but some promising news is ahead. Models have flipped for the end of the month and it is likely that we will see a few to potentially several chances for accumulating snow into early April! The Euro, Gfs and Canadian ensemble mean snowfall all show double digit snowfall totals across Northern New England by April 4th as several light to moderate systems may impact the region between now and early April. This is a very promising look with more troughing in place across New England. Ski resorts will likely get a base back up and running to extend their season a bit. I don’t see any major storms but light to moderate events. This time of year the mountains are obviously favored with rain across southern areas and lower elevation but I can’t rule out some accumulating snowfall even across Southern New England before April. Few inches of snow tomorrow AM (Friday AM) across NNE as rain changes to snow. Watching Monday as well as a more widespread snowfall may occur with light totals and potentially another system later next week and beyond. I’ll keep you updated but don’t put those Winter jackets away just yet! 🌨️

Our tornado chase over the weekend is a chase i won’t ever forget. Still processing the devastation over the weekend across Alabama on the first tornado chase I’ve ever done. It’s all excitement and anticipation driving down to chase our first tornado until the aftermath….

These photos taken by are striking. Seeing the damage to these communities was absolutely heartbreaking. Houses being completely destroyed with debris spread over a half of mile in each direction. Cars, trailers, and a school bus and more being lofted up. Straight medal being bent and ripped apart like it was plastic. Trees being shredded and thrown. People impacted by this had very little time to prepare as an EF-3 tornado came plowing down their community. 2 people got killed in Plantersville, Alabama with one of those people being picked up and thrown half a mile away. Devastating. These poor people will struggle to rebound. Poverty is a real issue in these small communities and it’s heartbreaking to see. Pictures don’t do justice. My thoughts go out to these communities that got impacted by this devastating event over the weekend 🙏

For the first time in my life I am following my dreams to chase a tornado down south! A significant severe weather outbreak is on the way to the Deep South on Saturday with a level 4 out of 5 (moderate risk) for extremely dangerous storms with damaging winds, tornadoes and large hail. Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee all in this with the highest threat for those damaging storms with tornadoes across Mississippi and Alabama.

Here’s the game plan. Safety is always #1 priority especially in the Dixie Alley with a lot of trees down that way. I am driving down at 6 AM tomorrow morning (Friday morning) with a team of 2 other people. One of those being quite experienced in the field of storm chasing. The drive is about an 18 hour drive down that way. Nothing is ever a guarantee and we could drive down there and end up seeing nothing. All part of the risk! We will be targeting just north of the Birmingham, Alabama area and may shift location into Eastern Mississippi based on radar. This outbreak is no joke with plenty of highly favored atmospheric conditions to produce a significant outbreak across those areas with some long tracked tornado’s. Moisture from the gulf moving northward with extremely strong upper level winds with a deepening trough. Safety is always #1 and we have the proper gear loaded into the Storm Hunter 2.0 to do a chase like this. If you would like to support this chase then head over to my bio with a link to support the chase! I’m excited to keep you all updated with frequent updates through this chase and I appreciate all of your support from day 1! I simply would not be able to do this if it wasn’t for all of you. Stay tuned to the story for the most frequent updates! Let’s do this…

❄️ Good Wednesday morning. Snow is on the way for Thursday. A quick moving system is expected to move in early Thursday morning into the afternoon. 1-3” is expected across much of Northern New England but a swath of 3-5” is likely across SE Vermont through central New Hampshire into Western Maine where the heaviest snowfall rates will be. Snowfall rates likely approach 1” per hour for a few hours between 8 AM-12 PM Thursday. Travel is expected to be difficult especially during the morning before improving by the afternoon with temps climbing into the mid-upper 30s and into the 40s to near 50 across Southern New England. This moves out by the afternoon with some showers across southern areas into SNE. This map does not include the expected upslope snow across the Green Mountains Thursday evening into Friday morning where up to 6-8” is likely to fall across the spine of the greens. More snow is expected for Saturday to welcome March with a few inches expected during the day. Stay tuned for updates

Good Sunday evening everyone. It’s been a long day with our Winter storm impacting the region! What a mess it was out there on the roads.

A significant weather day is ahead tomorrow (Monday) for President’s Day. As or storm moves away from New England and continues to strengthen into Canada, a very strong pressure gradient will develop with a strong cold front moving into the region tonight, tomorrow. This will bring in strong to damaging winds starting late tonight into tomorrow (Monday). Sustained winds are expected to be 20-30 MPH across the region tomorrow with stronger sustained winds with elevation. WIND GUSTS are expected to be between 50-60 MPH across much of the region but wind gusts of 70-80 MPH look very possible across the Berkshire’s into the elevations of Southern Vermont into the White mountains and into Interior, Northern Maine! These wind gusts will bring down power lines and trees tomorrow which will cause power outages. These winds will be coming in straight from the west. Strong to damaging winds are expected into late Monday night into early Tuesday morning but still gusting to 40-45 MPH on Tuesday. Significant upslope snow will continue across the Northern Green Mountains into late Tuesday with an additional 12” or more snow possible across the Northern Greens. A lake effect snow band will likely reach western Massachusetts tomorrow and may result in a few inches of snow. Wind chills well below zero on Monday and Tuesday across the interior! Highs only in the single digits and teens. I plan to head out to the Berkshire’s early tomorrow morning to chase this wind event where some of the strongest wind gusts across the region will likely be. Stay safe out there everyone and I’ll keep you updated

What a headache of a storm coming for this weekend! A strong storm will be moving in Saturday evening through all day Sunday with several different precipitation types! When we are dealing with several different types of precipitation the snow maps are always incredibly tricky. This moves in Saturday evening with a heavy burst of snow for the region. 5-8” of snow expected for Northern MA into VT, NH, ME by Sunday morning. Plowable snow likely across all of SNE before that changeover Sunday AM. By Sunday AM that snow will be changing to sleet and some freezing rain with rain at the lower elevations of SNE. Significant icing looks possible across the Worcester Hills into the Berkshires into the elevations of CT and even some icing expected across VT, NH, ME Sunday but the bulk in NH, VT, ME will likely fall as sleet as sleet likely creeps up into VT, NH, ME! I have 12-16” totals across Northern NY into northern VT, NH into ME. My current thinking is we won’t exactly know how far the sleet will make it north until Sunday. Models are split. Lean lower end of that forecast If sleet ends up moving all the way up into far NNE Sunday. Temps below 32 but a warm nose layer a few thousand feet above our heads may shoot up above 32 degrees all the way up into NNE by SUN afternoon even though surface temps will be in the teens and 20s. Overall the ski mountains should at least get a significant snowstorm before any sleet would move into ski country Sunday. 2 feet of snow is possible across NNE by Monday AM with upslope enhancement Sunday night into Monday morning but winds over 50-60 mph in the mountains Monday! This will bring major travel impacts folks and potentially power outages as well on Monday. This is a very complicated storm so stay tuned to the story for updates! I’ll keep you updated!

Good Thursday morning! This got out of hand real fast overnight. A Major Winter Storm is brewing for Presidents’ Day Weekend with a complex major system. Models are starting to converge on a major double digit snowstorm for Ski Country Saturday evening into Sunday. Let’s get into this.

My confidence is increasing on a burst of snow on the onset of this significant storm Saturday evening into Sunday AM across SNE into NNE. 4” or more snow looks likely across SNE before a CHANGEOVER TO SLEET, FREEZING RAIN and even some plain rain by Sunday AM across SNE. Best chance at turning to plain rain will be across Eastern MA into areas away from the elevations! This is a very complex system folks. My current thinking is that we will have a sharp gradient of significant snowfall totals of over a foot of snow and the mix line. Freezing rain and sleet likely a big concern with this! 12”+ of snow looks likely just north of southern VT into central NH and away from the Maine coast right now. This goes through all day Sunday and likely lingers into Sunday night! Models are still in a bit of disagreement on where exactly that gradient will be so it will take another 24-30 hours to gain higher confidence but I feel confident with this map for now with my current thinking! This will be a very powdery type snow up north with temps in the single digits and teens! Winds do not look overly strong Sunday with some gusts up to 25-30 mph but stay tuned. 40-60 MPH gusts likely Monday after this moves out! One of the busiest weekend’s for skiing and snowboarding!

Folks, please stay tuned as this is a very complex storm with a lot of different moving parts in the atmosphere! This is going to be a major system with major snowfall accumulations. I’ve got you covered. Stay tuned to the story for the latest updates!

This sucks. I absolutely hate these types of storms as they are an absolute pain to forecast. An absolute mess is coming for the Thursday morning commute through the early afternoon hours. A system is expected to move in tomorrow (Wednesday late evening-night). Precipitation will start off as some snow but is expected to quickly transition to freezing rain and rain across SNE by 4-6 AM Wednesday. A few inches of snow possible especially in the mountains into Maine before the quick changeover. Expect rain across SNE outside of the elevations when you wake up on THU. Snow across NNE will be changing over to sleet and freezing rain through the morning hours even across the ski mountains. Sleet and freezing rain will make for extremely dangerous traveling impacts Thursday morning into the afternoon. Maine will hold onto the snow the longest but even by the late morning, afternoon the snow is expected to go over to sleet and freezing rain. This all moves out by the late afternoon with some upslope across the Green and White Mountains with 6” or more possible by Friday AM. This is a 12-18” snowstorm just north across Quebec. Just brutal. 🚨 I’m watching another storm for the weekend on late Saturday into Sunday but this one looks to feature mixing as well with potential for significant icing in spots with the best chance for mostly all snow across Northern New England. A lot more moisture with this one but looks like a very challenging forecast. Just brutal. Stay tuned for updates……..

Good afternoon! Here we go! A significant snowstorm is on the way across much of New England for Saturday night into Sunday morning! Thankfully we won’t have to deal with much if any mixing problems so this is a classic snowstorm across the region! I am forecasting a widespread 6-9” of snow across much of Southern New England into central New England and into NY. Lighter amounts can be expected for far Northern New England and into Maine with the heaviest precipitation staying to the south. I cannot rule out some isolated 10” amounts. I’d favor southern VT, Southern NH into SNE for those isolated 10” amounts in spots but most see between 6-9”. Southern Maine seeing the highest totals in the state of Maine with this one. Snow is expected to move into the region between 7-10 PM Saturday night and continue to move eastward through the overnight hours into Sunday morning! The heaviest snow is likely between 10 PM Saturday and 4 AM Sunday morning with snowfall rates approaching 1-2” per hour at times especially across Southern New England! Temperatures are expected to be in the upper teens across much of NH, VT, Southern ME into NY and the low to mid 20s across much of SNE. Upper 20s to near 30 across the immediate south coast of SNE where I have 3-5” right along the coastline. The cold temperatures will help us stack up those half foot totals or more. This is a pretty quick moving system but will pack a punch! By 10 AM Sunday morning this is moving out with some lingering light snow into the late morning hours of Sunday. This will likely be Boston’s biggest snowstorm since 2022! Just insane. Many ski mountains will love this forecast with some fresh powder! I plan to chase this with an early morning chase here on the North Shore of Massachusetts! I am continuing to watch more Winter Storm threats as we head into next week with this absolutely incredible Winter pattern!!

Good evening. HERE WE GOOOOO! Nonstop tracking continues in this extremely active pattern at least for the next 10 days! As our storm today continues to move out of the region, my focus has turned to a significant snowstorm on the way for Saturday night into Sunday morning! Models are in agreement on the heaviest snow being across Southern New England this time into Southern VT into Southern NH. Lighter accumulations across Northern New England into Maine. My confidence is high on at least 6” or more of snow across SNE into Southern VT, Southern NH with 3” or more across NNE! I could see a swath of 5-8” or even 6-10” Saturday night into Sunday morning! Boston has not had more than 6” of snow in a few years now! This will likely get them over! Temperatures will be below 32 degrees so a fluffy snow can be expected which is why we will see significant snow accumulations even with a pretty quick moving system! This looks to start after 7 PM Saturday and ending sometime late Sunday morning. Exact timing will come into focus Friday night and you can expect snowfall maps to be posted on Friday evening with this one! 🚨 Folks, this pattern is absolutely loaded as we head into next week! Watching storm threats for WED through the end of the week timeframe and again next weekend! Several storms likely over the next 10 days! As always I will keep you updated on the weekend storm. Get ready for more snow!

Precipitation increases during the morning hours tmrw AM (THU) between 8-10 AM across SNE with a THUMP of heavy snow expected for SNE before any mixing. Snow is expected to continue to move northward into NNE by noon. Mixing of sleet and freezing rain is expected to impact CT, RI by the late morning before it moves northward by the afternoon hours across SNE. Snowfall rates of 1-2” per hour are expected with that THUMP of snow across SNE during Thursday morning. This is going to bring significant travel impacts especially across SNE with that mixing as sleet and freezing rain is extremely dangerous to drive in. School closures very likely. SNOWFALL TOTALS are expected to be 3-5” across all of Northern NE into Northern Massachusetts where it will take a bit longer to change to a mix in Northern MA. A quick 1-3” elsewhere before going over to a mix. A change to plain rain expected along the south coast of SNE by the afternoon. By 5-7 PM THU this is starting to quickly move out. I cannot rule out some freezing drizzle across NNE Thursday late afternoon-eve but the snow accumulations will be pretty much done by the evening. Mainly ❄️ up there. Please take it slow if traveling!

🚨🌨️ MAJOR WINTER STORM BREWING FOR SATURDAY NIGHT-SUN! Yes you heard that right! A major snowstorm is brewing for this weekend! Double digit snowfall is looking likely across much of New England! Right now I’d favor NNE into Northern SNE to see the highest totals BUT the models have been trending colder. The GFS is the coldest with a major snowstorm across all of SNE! The trend is your friend 👀. There is so much to cover right now with another storm likely next week! 3 storms in less than 10 days. I have you covered!

Good morning! More clarity is coming into focus on the impacts of our first Winter Storm of many in this remarkable pattern with storms every few days! A Winter Storm is on the way for Thursday into Thursday evening! This will be a fairly quick mover but will pack a punch! My confidence is high on an ALL SNOW event across Maine into much of New Hampshire into much of Vermont into Upstate New York on Thursday! Plowable snow is likely. Current thinking is 4-6” Thursday with some isolated higher amounts but stay tuned. This will be a powder type snow with temps in the teens and low to mid 20s. Snow to sleet and some freezing rain is expected across Southern New England but a few inches of snow look likely before that changeover! Along the south coast of SNE I am expecting snow to a quick mix to rain showers. This storm is expected to bring significant travel impacts as this looks to be moving in during the morning hours of Thursday between 9 AM- 12PM from south to north! Precipitation looks to move out by Thursday evening but still figuring out the exact timing with this Winter Storm. Exact timing with snowfall maps will be coming tomorrow morning. School closures will likely be needed even across SNE. We will quickly be switching to Saturday night, Sunday’s storm after Thursday’s storm moves out! Another storm likely next Wednesday, Thursday timeframe! What an unbelievable Winter pattern we’ve got going.

As always stay tuned to our story for the most frequent updates!
