A message from our Editor-in-Chief and founder, Stephanie Barnhill Neal

"I am so pleased to share with you that Lillington Living Magazine is now Urban Fringe. As you may have noticed, we have been on hiatus for a while. Life has been chaotic, exhausting, and even sometimes- unkind. To put it honestly, we lost our stride. We have taken these past few months to reevaluate what was working -- and what wasn't. Lots of hard work, planning, and rebuilding have been happening quietly behind the scenes. I can't wait to share with you all of the new changes, as well as our new focus on North Carolina's art and culture. Urban Fringe is the collision of urban and rural and our vision, as well as our new content, aims to share with you the very best of it. We hope you'll join us on this new journey".

Keep up with our stories on Medium, https://medium.com/urban-fringe-magazine

Please help our friends at Cape Fear River Adventures, LLC by joining the fight against the concreate and asphalt plant plans to build new our beautiful Cape Fear River. Let's keep this area natural and beautiful!

Hi there river friends! *GoFundMe link and peaceful demonstration info at end of post*

As some of you may already know, Cape Fear River Adventures has joined the fight against the improper placing of a concrete AND asphalt plant that is slated to be built dangerously close to a medical complex and hospital, several new and developing residential neighborhoods, the Cape Fear River, and is also less than 2 miles away from yet another asphalt plant in Lillington.

Our feeling is that our community on the Cape Fear (as Lillington likes to call itself) has been imperiled and misled by its county government officials whose sole elected purpose was to keep the quality of life for Harnett County residents as its utmost point of concern.

🌎 Dangers to water quality, air quality, environmental wetland issues, and loss of property value for county residents whose backyards will now be sharing a skyline with asphalt/concrete silos and constant truck traffic on already crowded roads are what our commissioners should have considered before rubber-stamping the permits for Highland Paving and assisting them in a property search for this dirty type of industry. We can't allow the upper Cape Fear River to become a toilet for industrial permitted waste to be flushed down. Cape Fear River Adventures understands the reason why the river is so dirty once you hit Fayetteville and beyond...

We truly understand the need for this type of business. However, responsible placement of it AND public input and awareness NEEDS to be an integral part of Harnett County decisions.

Please consider checking out this very informative public page: Harnett County Residents Against Asphalt & Concrete Plant
There are graphics and more details on what we're doing to fight this, what is at stake, and what you can do to help! If you've read this far, THANK YOU!
