Tomorrow I leave for a much needed vacation. The studio is done, it’s been tested thoroughly, and it’s absolutely fantastic. Exceeding my expectations for soundproofing, acoustics, and workflow right out of the gate. We will be fine tuning it and adding more features and various setups over the next several months. The Herculean effort put forth by the studio crew, friends, family, and myself to make this happen in such a short time cannot be overstated. I will be thanking everyone by name and posting pictures, videos (in color!) and updating the website to mark the official opening when I return from Florida. We will also be cutting together a video of the build process for anyone interested in that sort of thing. Maximum gratitude and grit from all of us at I/O Detroit - Recording Studio let’s make some stuff.

I’m the early stages of putting together a team for a pretty wild project. It’s a blend of art, communications, physical, and digital media. Not going to say too much publicly yet, but I’m in need of someone extremely fluent in Raspberry PI or other microcomputer systems, the more cyber-secure the better, I know there are options.
There’s possibly money to be made, definitely fun to be had, and a big challenge in the prototype build. Hit the DMs if you’re interested.

All these tools are nothing without GREAT songs and dedicated musicians. Back in late October a band called came to me with an absolute banger of a punk record. Everyone involved worked insanely hard and I couldn’t be happier with the result. We wrapped final mixes last night and now it’s off to mastering! Can’t wait for you all to hear it. It’s the type of record where there’s something for everyone and every song is a single.

New gear day! 1996 Digitech/IVL VCS-1 Stereo Tube Comp. Picked up this rare bird on a trade. Story here is this company IVL based out of Vancouver spent way too much money in R&D on this unit, and were forced to sell the whole lot of them to whoever would buy them. Digitech came along, bought them all for rock bottom, slapped their logo on it and sold them for pretty cheap in 1997. If you look at the circuitry you can clearly see this compressor is built as well as units costing 10x as much. Pretty cool, and this is why I always do research when I see something I don’t recognize.

I pieced this story together from what few bits and pieces I could find in the depths of forumland. Can you tell us all anything else?
