This is a special , as Floyd is also the subject of this week's program!

Floyd Bushey Mather was born in Uttoxeter on April 4. He was adopted by Anna while she was living in England, and the two of them have had many adventures, including moving to America in 2018 - back to Anna's home state to experience a polar vortex, derecho, and global pandemic. But through it all, Floyd continued to find friends and remain positive. James Cromwell, actor and activist, was right when he stated that “Pets are humanizing. They remind us we have an obligation and responsibility to preserve and nurture and care for all life.”

"For a Dog" by Ryan Wilson:

Though infused with grief, "For a Dog" also carries a tone of appreciation for all that our pets bring to our lives. The poetic voice of this piece suggests that dogs observe what humans cannot, and therefore bring a fresh perspective to our days.

It’s , featuring Lemon! Lemon was adopted from the Nevada Animal Shelter in 2023 by her family after being abandoned as a kitten. She is curious about the world around her and absolutely ravenous for food (she will tear across a room if he hears a bag of chips being opened). As well as this, Lemon is a lover of all! When Lemon is not seeking attention from her family, she can be found sleeping in a ball and sucking her thumb.

A poetic response to this week’s episode from Emily:

“Poem in My Mother’s Voice” by Augusta Funk:
https://poems.com/poem/poem-in-my-mothers-voice/

The premise of a poem written through another's voice is a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to have a voice. In this poem, we see the speaker amplifying another's story, possibly sharing a perspective that has not before been heard--that of the speaker's mother. How do we tell someone else's story? How do we make their voice heard? When do we have the right to do so? And how do our caregivers'/ancestors' voices influence our own?

A poetic response to this week’s episode from Emily:

"Some Street Cries" (excerpt) by Marjorie Welish:
https://poems.com/poem/from-some-street-cries/

This excerpt of the poem Some Street Cries exemplifies a choice to be in relationship, to choose friendship. When we choose connection -- whether in friendship or in chosen family -- the decision to bring someone close can shape the trajectory of our lives, so that we can "end by not feeling lonesome."
