We’re off! Day 1 to the glorious Illinois Capital - Springfield, the place of Lincoln’s home, the Lincoln Museum and the Old State Capitol Building, where Lincoln where Lincoln served his final term as an Illinois state legislator. He also delivered his famous “House Divided” speech during the 1860 Presidential campaign. Many other leaders worked here to expand the meaning of freedom in Illinois.
The timing of our trip is profound to me. In these final days before the election, we also face a house divided situation. The terms have never been more consequential. Do we vote for our nation’s right to continue its freedoms - from women’s rights over their own body - to freedom of the press - and our legal system where voting rights are safeguarded without harassment - or do we turn toward an autocracy?
Some of my friends and colleagues feel differently than I do. And ironically, this is similar to a Civil war feeling. During the war, people fought against one another. It is happening again. At what other time in history do we have a candidate who is openly discussing refuting the results of our voting system - that has been around for hundreds of years?
I can only hope and pray that the top priority is for us to continue having our freedoms. When I read the news, I have to limit how much to process.
My mission continues to be to shine a light on positive stories that happen around us.
If you’ve got a story within that needs to be shared (and who doesn’t?), then I encourage you to get my free story guide on my website -https://differencemakersmedia.com
You’ll also hear my tips, stories and news to serve your positive mindset.
If you’re near Chicagoland, I invite you to Join The 55th Annual Dr. King Remembrance Dinner, (https://icdhr.org), with leaders like Rev. Clyde Brooks and Illinois Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emanuel Chris Welch, on Dec. 14th. (Deadline for seats/tables by Nov.20th). We all need to get , and to peacefully speak up - in the legacy of Dr. King.
Thanks for tuning in on my inner and outer journey. Looking forward to visiting the former home of Abraham Lincoln today!
