AND STILL...

Katie Taylor defended her status as undisputed world light-welterweight champion with a unanimous-decision but controversial victory over Amanda Serrano in their rematch in Texas.

Taylor got the better of her Puerto Rican opponent in their first clash in 2022, and history repeated itself at AT&T Stadium in Arlington as the judges scored a close bout 95-94 in her favour, a fight that was streamed to millions around the world by Netflix, when it wasn't buffering at least.

But in the aftermath, both Serrano and her trainer accused Taylor of deliberately leading with her head to inflict the bad cut that hampered the challenger in the closing rounds, something the Irish champion denied after clinching the tightest of contests to move to (24-1-0) for her professional career.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding members of our Irish American community and UICC family on their upcoming honors leading up to and during March 2025. United Irish Societies has named the 2025 Grand Marshal for the 174th Annual San Francisco St. Patrick's Day Parade. Grand Marshal and UICC Board Member Mr. Mark Gorman will be leading the community up Market Street on March 15, 2025. We extend congratulations to Mark and his family on this honor and look forward to the celebrations. We also extend our congratulations to the families of the 2025 Honorees—Jerry Cassidy, a founding UICC member; Marie Gavney, a UICC member; and to Sr. Edith Hurley, RSM, a beloved teacher and former Irish Dancer with the Healy School.

As the UICC prepares to celebrate our Golden Anniversary in March 2025, we are delighted to be able to involve these stalwarts of our community in the festivities. We will share more in the coming weeks.
