A sign hangs in the entry way of our home. It says “These are the days.” This weekend was a reminder of that fact. I had the privilege of handing keys off to a lovely family. It was closing weekend for the play, “Within the Law.” I got to take my first 2+ hour bike ride of the year. My mom was in town, as was one of my oldest friends. These are the days.

Working with Ben & Lauren, this is what it’s all about. Days like these remind me why I love this profession so much. Home is where we learn to ride our bike, where we learn to fall in love, where we learn that our words are important and our actions have consequences. At home, we belong. We are allowed to fail. We are encouraged to succeed. The finger prints of our life cover every inch of “home.” From the chip in the pavement where we crashed our bike to the chair we sat in and sobbed when we found out a loved one passed away. Our sweat lingers in the grass where we mowed in the Summer sun. A home is alive.

I like to analogize the home search process like many epic journeys. While Dorothy is the main character in the Wizard of Oz, there are other heroes along the path. At the right moment, the Tin Man is the hero the moment needs. At another moment it is the Lion who must step up and lead the way. For me, the buyers are always Dorothy. I get the opportunity to be a hero for a brief moment in their story, and then to step away and allow them to flourish in the next chapter of their life. It is a tremendous honor and a privilege I do not take lightly.

Shoutout to the Gift Basket. It was a collaborative effort with Sarah and I want to also call out the different elements of the basket.

If you zoom in close enough, you can see she is smiling... she said yes, by the way. As we were driving away from the proposal I saw someone jogging down the street and I shouted, as I always do when I see someone jogging, “I hope everything is alright!” I like to imagine when people are jogging that they are running from something chasing them. Like everyone is in the middle of a horror film and I’m just here to observe it. Right after I made that joke I took Sarah by the hand and softly said “Sweetheart, you just signed up for that joke for the rest of your life.”
She did. And she knows it. That smile you see on her face if you zoom in close enough, I signed up for that smile for the rest of my life. I did. And I love it.

It is goal setting season. We talked about the way to set a goal and here we talk about the vision necessary to know what you're working towards. Many of us would say we want a better body, bank account, credit score, but we don't actually know what that would look like. In fact, often if we were asked what a better body looks like, we would just say "not the one I have now." That isn't moving towards a goal, that's moving away from something undesirable. There is no vision there, just a conversation about the past and what isn't working for you. It is good to know what isn't working for you but only long enough to make a commitment to change. In this video, I challenge you to figure out what the change you are committed to would look like in real life. Visualize then actualize!

Last night I taught the girls about angels. I told them angels are sent from God to bring us hope and joy. Angels remind us to have faith. They brighten our lives and in some of the dire circumstances, angels save our life. I let the girls know I believe they are angels in my life. They said thank you. And then we all threw macaroni and cheese at each other.

It is goal setting season! Here is a basic frame work for goal setting that is surprisingly simple and also surprisingly powerful. BY THE WAY-- I chose the cover picture because it encapsulates goals. Fresh hoodie, holiday and flowers for Sarah. A GOOD LIFE I TELL YOU! Enjoy!

Today I am returning to making videos! Accordingly, I am getting back to the basics with Motivation Monday by highlighting something so basic yet overlooked. You have something that Pablo Picasso doesn't. Something that Eleanor Roosevelt doesn't have. Mother Teresa, Gandhi. You, yes YOU, have something that none of them have. Watch this video to find out what it is. Now that you know you have that thing they don't, what are YOU going to do with it. Enjoy!

It started with a stuffed animal (the kids call them “stuffies” now, thanks PETA?) and has grown into a marginal interest in the Seahawks. More than a direct interest in the sport or the team, the weekly games give us a chance to gather and celebrate together, talk about excellence, talk about the value of competition and to eat a bunch of great food. They are 12s in training and I am beyond grateful for our .
