The music industry is complicated, and most creators are overwhelmed.

We created this flow chart to help music creators simplify their way to success by breaking it down into three distinct paths:

1. The Touring Performer: Makes a living on the stage.

2. The Creative Artist: Makes a living from building an audience online.

3. The Writer Producer: Makes a living in the writing room and studio.

Of course these paths can, and often do, overlap. But the goal is to narrow the scope, and therefore gain more focus on how to build a functional business model on your chosen path.

The roadmap also calls out the skills and resources that creators need on their path, as well as the various roles they may need on their team. Then it breaks down the most important components of music marketing and release planning.

Use the roadmap to strategize your path to major music success, and be sure to subscribe at Homie.news if you want more details on how it works!

As a music creator, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you need a record deal to truly call yourself an artist. But the truth is, that's simply not the case.

So don't wait for someone else to validate your artistry. Take control of your career and make things happen for yourself. Keep writing, keep creating, and keep pushing forward. With hard work, determination, and a little bit of luck, you can achieve your dreams on your own terms.

13/03/2023

It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others and feeling like you don't measure up. But the truth is, there's no one else out there who can do what you do in the same way you do it. Your unique perspective and style are what make you stand out from the crowd.

It's important to embrace your quirks and idiosyncrasies, because those are the things that make you who you are as an artist. Don't try to conform to someone else's idea of what a musician should be or sound like. Be true to yourself and your own vision, and you'll find your own niche.

Remember that the music industry is constantly changing, and there's always room for new voices and perspectives. Don't be afraid to take risks and try new things. You never know what might resonate with audiences and open up new opportunities for you.

Being comfortable in your own skin is about accepting yourself for who you are and owning your unique strengths and talents. So keep honing your craft, stay true to yourself, and don't be afraid to let your light shine!

06/03/2023

🚺 Happy Women's History Month! This March, let's celebrate the incredible achievements of women throughout history and inspire the next generation of female trailblazers.

As a woman or young girl, it's important to know your worth and never settle for less than you deserve. Women and young girls have been conditioned by society to downplay their achievements, underestimate their abilities, and settle for less. This can lead to feelings of self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and a lack of confidence in one's own worth. It's important to remember that we are capable of achieving great things and we deserve to be recognized for our hard work.

One way to build confidence and assertiveness is by practicing self-care and setting boundaries. Take time to prioritize your mental and physical health, and don't be afraid to say no to things that don't align with your values or goals. By setting boundaries, you are showing yourself and others that you respect your own needs and priorities.

Another important aspect of advocating for oneself is negotiating for what you want and need. Whether it's negotiating a salary, asking for a promotion or higher split, or simply expressing your needs in a personal relationship, it's important to speak up for yourself. Practice being assertive and direct in your communication, and don't shy away from asking for what you deserve.

Also be sure to surround yourself with a supportive network of other women who uplift and inspire you. Having a community of like-minded individuals can provide motivation, validation, and encouragement to pursue your goals and dreams. There are many women entrepreneurs and creators in the community who are open to connecting and building a tribe that will help push everyone to the next level.

So, during Women's History Month, let's celebrate the achievements of women throughout history and inspire the next generation of female creators by encouraging them to know their worth, set boundaries, and advocate for themselves. By doing so, we can continue to break down barriers and create a more equitable and empowering world (and industry) for all.

🚨 RESCHEDULED - Join our Director of Community Growth, as she chats with Jory Carver, Director of Artist Services at SoundCloud.

"Social media has changed our perception of artist development. With hot acts cropping up daily and seemingly out of nowhere, the art of developing your unique artist story is slowly being lost on executives looking to cash out on trends. And yet, there are still people who care about the person before the product and work tirelessly to ensure artists are ready for their star moment." -

During this conversation, we'll be speaking on the impact social media has on artist development, best practices, and how SoundCloud continues to support independent artists.

We're excited to be hosting 2 events this week geared towards women in music.

Being a woman in the music industry can be a challenging and daunting task. The industry has been dominated by men for decades, but that's changing, and it's changing fast. Women have been making significant strides in music, and the future is looking brighter than ever before.

Despite the many obstacles they face, women continue to create some of the most profound and inspiring music. They have pushed the boundaries of the industry and brought their unique perspectives and experiences to the forefront. Women are no longer content with being overlooked or ignored. They are taking up space, making noise, and brining a fresh perspective, a new sound, and a unique voice that cannot be replicated.

So, to all the women out there who are pursuing their dreams in the music industry, keep going. Keep pushing, keep creating, and keep making history. Your talent, resilience, and strength are an inspiration to us all.

PLAYBACK makes their return to HOME in the New Year! ▶️

PLAYBACK is a listening party started by two of Nashville's pop music tastemakers, ( & ) and ( & ).

It is an opportunity for the Nashville pop community event to gather, listen to unreleased music and share feedback in a safe, trusted environment. The approach is constructive and positive. It’s not a destruction derby. Hosts are music industry people with backgrounds ranging from A&R to media to successful songwriters. Pop music is a spectrum, so pop-leaning indie, hiphop, R&B and songwriter submissions are welcome!

Attendance is limited by capacity and via a first-come, first-serve basis. Submitting music doesn't guarantee every song will be played in the event, but the team will do their very best to accommodate the most people they possibly can.

🎟️ SUBMIT & RSVP at https://homeformusic.org/playback

Making music is a form of self-expression that has the power to bring joy to both the creator and the listener. When you create music, you pour your heart and soul into it, and the result is a unique piece that reflects your individuality. It's a therapeutic process that can help you release your emotions and connect with others on a deeper level.

Music also has the ability to bring people together and bridge the gap between cultures, backgrounds, and generations. Whether you're playing an instrument, singing, or producing tracks, music has the power to unite people and create a shared experience, which we see every year at the SuperBowl.

Embracing the joy of making music can bring new meaning to your life and help you connect with others in a way that words can't always express. So, turn up the volume, play your favorite tunes, and allow the rhythm to guide you on your musical journey. Remember, music has the power to bring happiness, healing, and hope to the world, and you can be a part of that with every note you create.

The recognition and acknowledgement of your hard work and talent through awards can be incredibly fulfilling. Awards not only validate your efforts, but they also serve as a testament to your creativity and skills in the music industry. Receiving an award can increase your exposure and bring in new opportunities for collaborations and growth.

Awards can also serve as a source of motivation to continue creating and pushing the boundaries of music. It's an opportunity to showcase your work to a larger audience and to inspire others to pursue their dreams. So don't be afraid to aim high and strive for recognition in your field. Put in the hard work and dedication, and with time and persistence, you too can receive the recognition and awards that you deserve.

Keep pushing forward and don't let fear or self-doubt hold you back from reaching for the stars. ✨
