Day Three: Jamie Lee Curtis

The OG Final Girl and Scream Queen, Jamie Lee Curtis only has about a dozen horror flicks under her belt and most are the Halloween franchise. (Give Barbara Crampton her flowers!)
Never saw this before or it’s remake.
Takes about an hour for this slasher to start slashing, however and there’s lots of teen drama and disco.

Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker is one of the most visually striking and thought provoking films I’ve ever seen.
Bearing many similarities to and paired well with 2018’s Annihilation with its themes and setting.
Themes of human desire and philosophy, theology and psychology. Dense and ugly.
IMDb lists the 2001 film Avalon as a remake but I can’t find any confirmation on that.
Check it out on Max if you’re into slow burns.

Pretty cool to find out this Stephen King miniseries was partly filmed in and around where I’m currently living in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
Mostly the exterior town shots and stuff.
And in a weird parallel to the story they had a wicked bad storm, I guess.

Disjointed, grotesque and harrying.
Played out against the dismal backdrop of Cold War-era West Berlin.
At once both psychological drama and body horror.
Come for the Sam Neill, stay for the batsh*t crazy ending.

Rendezvous with Rama, Arthur C. Clarke’s award-winning novel languished in “development hell” for over 20 years and at one time had David Fincher attached.
Denis Villeneuve is set to direct now, no doubt from the success of Dune.
2001: A Space Odyssey had a sequel in 1984 I think most people forget about.
2010 wasn’t the monolith Kubrick’s film is but it had mostly positive reviews, being a Cold War-era film.
Maybe this will open up more adaptations of the Space Odyssey series? 🤷🏻‍♂️

One Cut of the Dead (2017) is a shoestring horror send-up and love letter to low budget filmmaking that is incredibly layered and heartfelt.
Each act letting the pieces fall into place for the viewer.
While it may or may not entice your garden variety horror fan it will certainly have a home in the hearts of lovers of the filmmaking process.
The film’s popularity spawned a remake in 2022 from French director Michel Hazanavicius, Academy Award-winning director of 2011’s Best Picture winner The Artist.
