A lot of small businesses rely on the holiday season to get them through the rest of the year. They have to juggle that huge responsibility on top of the other expectations they place on themselves as mothers, daughters, and friends.

In addition to shopping and supporting small businesses this holiday season, let’s remember to be kind. Remember there is a person behind the social media account that’s trying to promote their business while juggling approximately one million other things AND trying to salvage time for their own families and loved ones. Let’s lift them up, remind them they’re doing a great job, and continue to check on them throughout the holidays.

To all of my small business friends, you’ve got this. Do your best, forget unrealistic expectations, show yourself grace, and remember to take time for yourself and your family. It’s okay to step away.💙

1. Avoid taking plastic grocery bags to the beach.

2. Don’t leave trash (or anything) behind when you leave.

3. If you see trash, even if it’s not yours, pick it up and properly dispose of it.

Small efforts can make a big impact in protecting our beautiful coastline.💙

Discovered this new update today when posting for a client! Previously, you could only tag a total of 5 people and products in a single image and up to 20 in a carousel post. Now you can tag 20 in a single post!

The screenshot featured in this post was me trying to find the limit once I realized they weren’t capping me at 5. Be sure you have a reason for tagging 20 products/people or your account can come off as spammy. Also, the more tags you have, the harder it can be for a viewer to click on the one they want. So great update, but use sparingly!

And just like that, it’s Q2! Keep reading for 3 of my top tips…

We are 25% through 2022. If you’re like me, Q1 always feels like a blur and to be honest, a warm up. So if you haven’t hit 25% of your annual goals, show yourself a little grace. There is still plenty of time to make up for it.

If you need to supercharge your efforts, here are THREE of my top tips…

1. Look at your analytics and see what’s working and what’s not working. Double down on what’s working and consider outsourcing the tasks that are important but not showing any results.

2. Install the Facebook pixel on your website now, if you haven’t already. If you end up needing to run ads later in the year to recoup some sales, you will be thankful to have a “well seasoned” pixel ready to help you optimize your targeting.

3. Optimize your Facebook/Instagram Shop and be sure you always tag your products when you post! With the new updates, we’re seeing more suggested posts and products in our feed. Someone new to your brand, may not be committed to going to your profile, to click your url, to search for the product. (Tbh, even if they are a fan of yours, who has time for that??) Make it easy for users and tag your products. Brownie points if you tag the product in the caption too.

Tap the “Instagram” logo in the top left of your home screen and you’ll see two new options for your Instagram feed: Following and Favorites.

Following: This feed will show you posts from the people you follow. These posts will be in chronological order so that you can scroll through and quickly catch up on everyone’s recent posts.

Favorites: You get to choose up to 50 accounts to show up in this feed. These posts will also be in chronological order. When you add someone to your Favorites, their posts will also show up higher in your home feed!

What this means for the home feed: The “home” feed is the regular feed that we’re used to seeing on Instagram. This feed will continue to be influenced by the algorithm and you will start seeing some content mixed in from accounts you don’t follow, but IG thinks you will like. (In my opinion, this is their effort to tap into some of the TikTok magic.)

As a business utilizing Instagram, it’s important to understand these new feeds and how to make them work in your favor. When news first broke that this change was coming, I did my research and put together my tips for getting discovered on each of the new feeds. I’ll link to these post in stories if you want to check them out.

It’s officially spring and it’s the perfect time to do a little spring cleaning in your business.

We all have a list of things that we know we need to do and plan to get to “one day”. Find a day or two in the next few weeks and use that time to tackle the list!

Not sure what to focus on? Here are some ideas for you…

1. Go through your list of email subscribers. Remove contacts that are unengaged and think of ways you can further segment your list.

2. Look at your current customer acquisition strategy and identify areas for optimization.

3. Revisit your goals for the year. As we wrap up Q1, adjust your goals or strategy as needed so that you can enter Q2 with your best foot forward.

3. Schedule a photoshoot for summer content and plan ahead! Collect and organize assets so that you can update your website and social media for the warmer months ahead.

4. Identify areas that you can outsource. If it’s taking all your time, you hate doing it, and/or you’re not seeing desired results, it’s time to outsource. 76 degrees today in Savannah.☀️It’s supposed to reach the 80s next week! Warm weather just makes me feel happy, energized, and optimistic. (The stomach bug just ran it’s course through our home, so I could use all of that right now!🙃)

Cleaning your email list will help you reduce unsubscribe rates, increase open and click rates, and increase your deliverability score.

What does cleaning your email list mean?
Simply removing subscribers that never open or engage with your emails. These are people that are taking up space on your email list that are unlikely to purchase... and when you're paying an email subscription based on the number of subscribers you have, that really matters!

When to remove a subscriber:
The timeframe for being unengaged is up to each business and the frequency/consistency in which you send emails. At the very least, if you've been emailing your list for over a year and you see a subscriber hasn't opened any emails in the last 365 days, remove them. Or if you email your list weekly and see that a subscriber hasn't opened your last 15 emails, it's probably safe to remove them.

If you hire someone to manage your emails, (🙋🏻‍♀️hi!) they should routinely do this for you to ensure optimization.

Now, go set a recurring reminder to clean up your email list.⏰
