Jose Ibarra was convicted today in an Athens-Clarke County courtroom in the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard.
While this is what Justice is this side of heaven, we all know true justice would be Laken Riley still being here. In the coming days, may we continue to keep her family, friends, and loved ones in our prayers.

What are YOUR thoughts on the Menendez Brothers?
Do they deserve to be resentenced and released? Should they remain in prison? Do you believe their story about why they killed their parents?
Let's talk about it! Comment below what your take is on this high-profile case! I'll share my views in the comments later this evening and look forward to the discussion.
Welcome, welcome, welcome!
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said Thursday he’ll recommend that a judge resentence Lyle and Erik Menendez nearly 30 years after the brothers were convicted of the murders of their parents – a recommendation that he said would make them eligible for immediate parole.

According to multiple news agencies, the victim is 'Santonio Coleman'. However, sources who have spoken directly with the family tell us the victim went by "San" 🏳️🌈 . If anyone has any information on this case, please contact the Athens Clarke County Police Department immediately.
On October 19th, at approximately 9:00 AM, ACCPD responded to an Injured Person call on Trail Creek Trail near the intersection of Oak Ridge Avenue and Vine Street. Officers located a 48-year-old male, who was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
ACCPD detectives are investigating the incident as a suspicious death. They do not believe there is any danger to the public.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact

September 25th is National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims. There are many families on my mind today. My Uncle Charles and Aunt Jean, whose daughter was murdered in 1996. Mrs. Virginia Baker and her children. Kelsey and the friends who loved her parents fiercely. So many names come to mind.
Especially close to my heart today are the families of the stories told right here on Classic City Crime. The families of Tara Baker, T.K. Harty, Drs. Rachel and Glenn Sutton, Ann Orr Morris, Sally Nathanson, Helen Nathanson, Elijah Wood, Jonathan Foundling Grant, Robbie Bryant, and Genelle Helms.
May we honor their memories today, and may we never stop seeking justice for all homicide victims AND their families. ♥️ 🖤

If you would have told me when we started this podcasting journey together I’d be joining Julie Grant on COURT TV to share about Tara’s story in response to an arrest and indictment in her unsolved case, I wouldn’t have believed you. Not because I believed it was impossible, but because I never expected the collaborations that would lead us all to this moment.
But together, we have arrived here. Together, we advocated for Justice. Together, we helped the Baker family ensure that Tara- and her remarkable life- would never, ever be forgotten. Now, together, let us pray and believe that justice will finally be brought home for the Baker family. Let us support them and remember them in our thoughts in the coming months.
This isn’t for me nor has it ever been about me. This isn’t for the Podcast either, really. It’s so much bigger than that. This is, and always has been, for Mrs. Virginia…for her Tara.
Keep believing. Keep watching. Keep praying that as the wheels of justice turn, the truth will continue to be revealed. This is my heart’s prayer.
For Justice,
For Tara,
Cameron Jay
You can watch the interview from this morning at the link below. I’m grateful to Court TV for sharing Tara’s story, and to Julie Grant for her deep compassion for victims and their families. ⚖️

By Joe Johnson A Superior Court grand jury has indicted 49-year-old Edrick Lamont Faust for the murder of University of Georgia law school student Tara Louise Baker that had gone unsolved for 23 years until the Athens man was arrested in May of this year.On Friday the grand jury returned a 12-count....

This morning, I was with The Baker Family and some of Tara’s classmates, friends, and colleagues at the bond hearing for the man who has been charged in her 2001 murder. The wheels of Justice are beginning to turn, and we’re going to continue to let the system do its job to bring justice and the truth home for Mrs. Virginia, her children, and all who knew and loved Tara most.
Our focus over the next few months will remain where it always has- on supporting and uplifting Tara’s family. There are few who can imagine the many emotions that accompany being in the same room with the man who took your daughter, sister, and friend. Please join me in continuing to pray for the Bakers and Tara’s friends as this process begins.
Our friend Wayne Ford with Athens Banner-Herald & OnlineAthens.com wrote an article about today’s hearing and the outcome. Read more below.

A sweet surprise in the mail from The Buchanans in California. When I covered the story of their daughter Beth’s life, legacy, and her preventable death, I never imagined they’d become such close friends. That seems to always happen, and it makes my heart feel so full.
This work has always been about so much more than podcasting. But about relationship building. About justice.
Thank you, Julie, Tim, and Claire for this thoughtful gift…I see why they were Beth’s favorites.
May we keep believing in .

Listeners! If you haven’t heard, I’ve joined the team at The Cancer Foundation as the Relationship Manager (y’all know relationship building is one of my passions!)
TCF is a local nonprofit whose mission is to “help alleviate the financial burden of cancer” for patients right here in North Georgia! We do this by providing direct financial assistance for non-medical related expenses and nutritional assistance for our neighbors and friends in treatment. It’s truly an honor to get to do this work, and I want you to be a part of it!
I’ll never forget the kindness this community we’ve built here together showed to me during my battle with cancer last year. It is my hope that together we can continue to help others, too!
I’d be so appreciative if you’d “Like” and “Follow” us on Facebook at the link below for opportunities to join me in getting involved by becoming a doer, donor, or door opener with us! ❤️ Thank you, CCC!
This month, we celebrate the strength and resilience of cancer survivors. With over 17 million cancer survivors in the U.S. (ACS), their journeys inspire us all. As one survivor wisely said, "The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it." - C.C. Scott
Here at the Cancer Foundation, we recognize the triumphs and challenges of survivorship, and we honor every story. As we celebrate the survivors, we also extend our hearts to those who are still fighting and to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. Every story is unique, and every journey is significant.
Join us in spreading hope and support this National Cancer Survivor Month. Together, we can make a difference!

Please share this story to help find 12-year-old Maria Gomez-Perez, missing from Gainesville since last Wednesday. We all know there’s power in community and getting these stories out there!
My thoughts are with her family- and my prayers are with her for a safe return.

"Like so many of you, I've been processing a lot of emotions since the news broke that someone had been arrested in Tara Louise Baker's homicide- a case that had been unsolved for over 23 years. I know this rollercoaster of emotions could never compare to what Mrs. Virginia, Meredith, Kevin, Adam, and all of you who knew and loved Tara so dearly have been feeling. My prayers and love continue to be sent to each and every one of you.
The overwhelming emotion that I keep coming back to is simple: gratitude. My heart is filled with such gratitude for Tara's family. For over two decades, they never stopped fighting. They never stopped asking questions. They never gave up hope that justice for Tara might one day be realized. The Bakers took a chance on me when I told them I had one very simple goal in starting Classic City Crime Podcast: to tell Tara's story to the world. It was that simple. And, they stayed with me every step of the way. Getting to call them more than just friends, but family, is one of my life's greatest blessings.
There is also gratitude for you, our listeners. You all came together and formed a community centered around upltifting Tara's family and her story. When the storytelling journey was complete, you pivoted with me to advoacy not only for Tara's family, but for hundreds of families like hers who are still waiting for answers. Together we saw to it that the Coleman-Baker Act would become law, and I believe firmly that this advocacy is why we are having this conversation today. A special thank you to Representatives Houston Gaines and Stacey Evans (along with countless other lawmakers), Scot Turner, the Coleman family, and this community for coming together to ensure Tara and Rhonda's legacies would live on-- and help others. I can honestly say we never, ever thought Tara's case would be the first to be solved under the provisions of the law.
It’s time for a quick break from our usual CCC programming to thank our sponsor and friends at Magnolia Dental Spa! Dr. Barker and his team have been taking care of my smile for several years now (his wife, Christie, went to college with Tara Baker from Season 1!). When my teeth started to experience rapid issues as a result of wear and tear and chemo/radiation, they came together and helped to restore my smile using porcelain crowns! The results are truly remarkable! The procedure was painless, made more easy by the caring and kind nature of everyone who works at Magnolia Dental Spa! Thank you, Dr. Barker, Christie, and the entire team for helping to restore my confidence, and for being such strong supporters of Classic City Crime— we LOVE you all! Listeners, if you’re in need of a smile restoration or general dentistry for your family, please reach out to them at magnoliadentalofathens.com
Hearing from Beth's partner, Asa, was truly an honor. It was clear that Beth Buchanan had found her person, as she shared with her mother just days before her tragic death. You'll hear more from Asa in coming episodes, and you'll learn just how much the Buchanan family continues to mean to him.

#JusticeforBeth
Here at Classic City Crime, we start every series by honoring and remembering the lives of those who have been so tragically taken from us.
Julie Olson-Buchanan knew that her daughter would change the world someday. From an early age, Beth Buchanan showed her parents just how compassionate she was, and how much she cared for others.
In Part 1 of "Justice for Beth", hear Beth's parents, her sister, and her partner detail the amazing life she led, and the large impact she made in her 23 years on this earth. As we move through this series together, you're going to learn more about what happened to Beth, and why her family is asking for your help.

Our Story.
Hi, I’m Cameron Jay, host of Classic City Crime, a new true crime podcast coming to Athens, Georgia.
Here’s what I don’t want this to be: another podcast you binge and leave behind pile of podcasts past. I want to continually tell stories, continually seek answers, always fight for justice, and with your help. Why?
My mom’s best friend and my second cousin (if I did the math right...it was never my strong suit) was gunned down as she worked from a movie store in 1996. Though only a child at the time with no memory of her, I’ll never forget those times when her name would come up and the sadness would set in on my mom and family’s faces. For my cousin and my family, Justice was eventually served. But, this did little to prepare me for a more personal loss I would experience at age 13.
Jacob was my best friend, meeting in the first grade probably arguing on the playground about something most first-graders probably don’t have on their mind: our weather predictions, our thought on the political climate (like we knew anything about that), and more. That’s how our friendship was: challenge one another but always, always be friends. We were, until his life ended at the hands of at distracted driver in 2008, just one semester away from finishing our junior high career. I’ll never forget Jacob, the lasting effect his death had on me, and I’m grateful that his family, too, was able to eventually see Justice served. Still reading? Good. The next part’s interesting.
I’m not sure if it was my desire to know “what really happens” or my encounters with death at a young age, but somewhere along the way in my adult life I found myself working in a funeral home for nearly 3 years. I loved the job but if I’m being candid, I hated the sadness. Murders, suicides, you name it-- we saw it. It was the cases where answers never came and families were left to grieve not only a loss but the harsh reality that the truth might not come.
This life has taken me through some interesting ups and downs, all of which I know is why I’m here creating this, and you’re here (hopefully) still reading.
These experiences inspired the creation of the Classic City Crime Podcast.
Beyond my desire to seek answers, fight for justice, and help families tell their loved one’s stories, I also love this city. Athens is my home. It’s the place where I have found my chosen family, and anything that would put people in my community in harm’s way is personal for me.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey. The interviews are happening. The stories are unfolding. You may help solve a mystery...or get people talking who can. While you wait, be sure to sign up to become a Classic City Crime Insider for all the latest updates https://www.classiccitycrime.co/cccinsiders.
Cheers,
Cameron Jay
