PGC Director Resigns for Alleged Unethical Actions, Maloney Reports
HARRISBURG – The director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) has been forced to resign for alleged unethical actions, House Game and Fisheries Committee Chairman David Maloney (R-Berks) announced today.
Bryan Burhans, executive director of the PGC since 2017, tendered his resignation Monday due to alleged unethical actions, including using his position as manager of a state agency with assets of nearly a half-billion dollars for personal gain.
The information leading to Burhans’ resignation was uncovered by Maloney’s relentless pursuit of information that many actors in PGC management, including Burhans himself, sought to withhold.
“As I studied the actions of the PGC, requested information, and heard reports from the field, it became very clear to me that a handful of bad actors at the PGC had become so engrossed with their own power that the PGC’s primary mission – to protect our animals, enhance habitat and serve the sportsmen – had been sidelined by a culture of personal pet projects and vendettas against anyone daring to speak out,” Maloney said.
The PGC commissioners have already named Stephen Smith from inside the agency as Burhans’ successor, without posting the position.

Since we LOVE “aha moments”, we thought we would share a note that A Missouri Drop-Tine Innovator! subscriber recently sent us:

“I Just listened to your podcast with Dan Kittridge. This podcast alone paid for my annual podcast dues! It hit me like a brick! I just realized that because I’ve gone totally regen in my orchard and veg garden I have seen no Japanese beetles, aphids, tomato hornworms, etc. I also planted pollinator strips all around both my orchard and garden. I knew I should be doing this-but now I know why pests don’t like my stuff!”

We totally agree! If insects are eating your food plots, orchards and gardens, you’re not growing nourishing human and wildlife food…you’re growing insect food!

RECORDING! WARNING…EMOTIONS INVOLVED! Today, the Drop-Tine Podcast is recording a new episode called Deer Wars!? When it comes to America’s most popular (and profitable) game animal, every state agency faces difficult challenges and deals with satisfying diverse stakehokders. How much political pressure is there to make policy that plays into a specific narrative, or specific narratives, with complete disregard for the ecology of the species of interest and the health of the ecosystem? Change comes from exploring the uncomfortable where everyone’s opinions are welcome. As license-buying, tax-paying sportsmen, we all have our opinions. In fact, we’re entitled to them. We’re just not entitled to our own facts. These topics resonate with every hunter, from every state; not just Pennsylvania! We’re getting ready to record with PA State Rep. David Maloney on the deer and hunting discussions, actions and decisions that are made behind the scenes in Pennsylvania. The “inside stuff”. What would you like to ask Representative Maloney regarding his positions on deer hunting and wildlife management?

Dropping Friday morning, 12-29-2023 on the Drop-Tine Innovators! Podcast: NUTRIENT DENSITY MATTERS! Not all clover is the same. Not all chicory is the same. In fact, nutrient density varies tremendously within the same forage species planted in two different food plots. Nutrient density is a function of soil health, which is a function of your management. The soil microbiome in your food plots IS fertility. Soil biology is KEY and your management either has positive cascading effects or negative cascading effects. Which is it? If there was a bionutrient meter that could measure the nutrient density of the forages in your food plots, where would you stack up? What grade would your management receive? Tune in to hear Jason Snavely talk with Dan Kittredge of the Bionutrient Food Association about all things nutrient densit

Back in July of 2022 Jason, Dr. Bronson Strickland from the MSU Deer Lab, and Dr. Rick Haney discussed why it would be beneficial for MSU to conduct research on regenerative food plotting strategies and how they compare to conventional, chemical approaches still being pushed by wildlife food plot seed companies today. Will these companies follow Drop-Tine Seed Company and toss the toxins and destructive tillage?

MSU still didn’t have funding in summer 2022 to pull the project off at that point but Dr. Strickland didn’t give up. Fast forward to today and MSU almost has a full growing season in! Jason is designing both the Regen and conventional blends around some basic requests from MSU and interestingly, drought and deer preference in the first couple months of the project have already provided the answers we needed to chock the win up for food plotting in Nature’s image. We will learn so much more from this project as time goes on so tune in to the Drop-Tine Podcast for deep discussions and interpretations on what the researchers are observing!

Nature’s “tillage” with the inclusion of dung, urine, saliva and BIOLOGY! Perhaps we should cease the war on pigs and work with them? Any ideas on what we can follow up their “tillage” with from a seed perspective? 😜 Working WITH Nature requires an open mind and the willingness to throw out bad habits. It’s not what we don’t know that hurts us, it’s what we know that ain’t so!

22/11/2023

The #1 question we hear from food plotters who are interested in regenerative wildlife plantscape systems is some version of: How do I eliminate my dependence on synthetic, high salt fertilizers? Our common response is a play on a political line from the 90’s: It’s the BIOLOGY stupid! Well planned, increased levels of plant functional diversity is what drives biological fertility and our ability to get away from ecosystem disrupting inputs that interfere with the rhizophagy cycle (not familiar with this? Tune in to the Drop-Tine Innovators! Podcast to learn the secrets of biological fertility) We’re proud to have led the regenerative food plotting space and what’s to come in 2024 and beyond will be truly mind blowing! Looking for two reasons why Fall Reload is our favorite blend for attracting, nourishing, and harvesting mature bucks? These two great bow bucks were shot by customers in Missouri and Iowa in Fall Reload plots that represent a relatively small percentage of their total landscape. Species diversity is important but choosing the RIGHT species that promote synergistic outcomes and benefits increases nutrient density and improves the flavor profile of herbaceous forages. These midwestern bucks have access to hundreds of acres of corn, soybeans, and alfalfa yet they chose to feed in the small percentage of real estate that offers Fall Reload…during daylight hours! Why?

Fall Reload completely changed the food plotting game seven years ago. Heck, even our competitors used it on their catalog cover and in social media posts!🤪 We’re certainly not surprised that this special complementary blend sparked the regenerative wildlife agriculture movement. If you’re following along as the investigates regenerative vs. conventional chemical farming, know that a slightly modified MSU Fall Reload, designed by our founder is going head to head with conventional farming and there’s no doubt in our minds which blend will come out on the right side of history!

In case you missed it…The settlement forces Bayer to stop advertising Roundup as a safe and non toxic herbicide. There is no reason wildlife food plotters should be spraying toxins like Glyphosate based Roundup on the properties they manage. By the way, the other chemical toxins should be tossed as well.

Bayer AG agreed on Thursday to pay $6.9 million to settle claims by New York Attorney General Letitia James that it misled consumers by advertising Roundup weedkiller, which has been linked to cancer, as environmentally safe.

Glyphosate: Failed Promises, Flawed Science

87 year-old Glyphosate researcher, plant pathologist, retired U.S. Army Col. and Emeritus Professor (Purdue Univ)., Dr. Don Huber has been shot at, stabbed and beaten to a pulp during his storied investigative career merely because of his long-time involvement in research on the impacts of Glyphosate (RoundUp) on plant nutrition, disease and health. Hits have been taken out on him by researchers and industry thugs who are in the tank (follow the $$$) with large multinational organizations and the makers of synthetic chemicals such as RoundUp. Jason poses a broad spectrum of topics surrounding the Glyphosate/Roundup discourse including the science-based research that links Glyphosate, as a broad spectrum mineral chelator and gut/soil disrupting antibioic, to Chronic Wasting Disease in white-tailed deer.
