"If I have any appeal at all, it's to the fellow who takes out the garbage."

Remembering Lee Marvin, who passed on this day in 1987. Best known for his "tough guy" roles, Marvin achieved acting glory with an Oscar for Best Actor for his dual leading role in CAT BALLOU ('65).

Marvin served valiantly in the Marines in WWII, ultimately earning the Purple Heart among many other medals. 🎖️

Henry Fonda's first film was THE FARMER TAKES A WIFE ('35) and Katharine Hepburn's was A BILL OF DIVORCEMENT ('32). Both actors had extremely successful and prolific careers, each winning numerous awards including 4 Oscars for Hepburn and 1 Oscar for Fonda. 🌟

Though they both worked in Hollywood in the same era, the pair never made a movie together until 1981 in ON GOLDEN POND ('81). The movie was made at the end of both of their careers and is beloved to this day. ❤️🚣

Originally, James Darren was not selected to play Moondoggie in GIDGET ('59) because the role required him to sing and he was not established in Hollywood as a singer. However, Columbia pictures had him cut a single that ended up charting, so they gave him the role. 🏄‍♀️🏄

After the success of FLIPPER ('63), a sequel was made titled FLIPPER'S NEW ADVENTURE ('64). Interestingly, Mitzy, the dolphin used in the first movie was unavailable to reprise her role for the second film and it took 5 dolphins to replace her. 🐬

The main dolphin in FLIPPER ('63) was named Mitzi, who was raised and trained at a Dolphin Research Center by a couple based out of Little Torch Key. The dolphin performed all of the stunts in the movie. 🐬⭐️

FLIPPER ('63) writer, Ricou Browning, said that he originally had the idea for the movie after watching his children watch and wanted to recreate the story with a dolphin rather than a dog. The writer stated that he used his last $100 to write a book on the concept and then convinced producer Ivan Tors to turn it into a film. 🐬
